From galley kitchens and U-shaped kitchens to L-shaped kitchens, Peninsula kitchens and island kitchens, regardless of the style you have, some issues arise in all kitchens that trouble us all.

However, there are lots of ways you can fix these problems, and with most people enjoying a bit of DIY, we’ve listed several ways to fixed common kitchen problems below.

Problem doors

When you walk into the kitchen, one of the worst things you can see is a mess, because that means there’s a load of cleaning to get stuck into. However, even if you wash all those pots and pans and put them away, one thing that can make your kitchen look a mess is cupboard doors that don’t close.

This can happen over time, and, because it would be a bit pricey to constantly change the doors, there are some fixes you can implement. One way is to simply re-tighten the screws to get them back to how they once were, while lubricating the hinges and adding a wood filler to the screw holes are other ways to fix the problem.

Sticking

While your cupboard doors may not want to close, drawers can have the opposite problem. Sticking kitchen drawers is a sure-fire way to annoy anyone, especially when you need something and quick. This is an easy problem to fix, either add some lubricant to the runners or remove them and wash them with regular washing up liquid and water to ensure they open quickly and easily from now on.

Grease

Another form of sticking can happen when your kitchen surfaces become greasy. This is a very common problem, and, even if you spend hours cleaning your home, if you can’t shift that grease it can leave you feeling defeated. A quick and easy solution if those pricey cleaning products aren’t working is white vinegar. Simply wipe it across everything from worktops and the sink to the cooker hood and floor with a microfiber cloth for a cleaner than clean result. To help keep the issue at bay, every 6 – 12 months you can polish your surfaces with olive oil.

Bad smells

Ever walked into your kitchen and wondered ‘what’s that smell?’, well you’re not alone. While you may spend ages sniffing the fridge, you may be surprised to find it’s the drains, resulting in a foul odour coming up through the sink. This isn’t a surprise, considering the amount of waste that may slip down there alongside dirty water. Luckily, fixing this problem is super simple. Just open your cupboard, grab some baking soda and lemon juice, mix them and pour down the drain. Leave for around 15 minutes and rinse away with boiling water for a homemade fix for a smelly sink.

Space

A problem that many homeowners have when it comes to their kitchen is space. While we would all love a huge kitchen, for many of us, this isn’t an option. However, this can be fixed. If you’re getting a new kitchen, get one designed that has secret hideaways to keep space clear, giving the illusion of more space, or, keep big appliances locked away in a cupboard, only getting them out when you need them. Aside from this, there are plenty of items that can help give you more storage options.

So, if you’ve been experiencing common kitchen problems, the above should help you out no problem.
