4 Design Tips To Consider As A New Homeowner

Posted On Saturday, 20 February 2021 20:11

Being a new homeowner is exciting because you have all the right to turn a house into your home. You'll be living in it for years, so it's best to make it personal. Although you may hire interior designers, you should also input your preferences so that you can feel it's your home. That's why you may need to learn some designing tips before transforming a structure into your home.

You may want to consider the following:

1. Landscaping

Designing the insides of your home is vital, but don't forget your landscape. It also needs designs to add value to your home while making your outdoor space inviting.

If you're starting from scratch, landscaping may take time. Don't rush, but enjoy the process. What's even better is that you can do it during your spare time or after designing your house's interior. Then, check out the landscape design principles before you start landscaping.

Whatever landscape you want to achieve, you may want to make it functional as well. Plants, trees, and flowers can make it inviting. However, if you want to make it functional, you may want to save a space. For instance, create an area for chilling and grilling, swing sets for kids, and the like. That way, you won't be uprooting plants just to make space for functions. Finally, you can enjoy the sun while surrounded by a good landscape.

2. Colour

Next is to consider the overall colour of your home. The best interior paint will depend on your favourite colours. As a result, you won't have to stick to traditional colour schemes.

Make your favourite colour as a base for the scheme of your home. You can find other inspirations in magazines, paint companies, Instagram, and Pinterest. Or you can also use the colour theory to create a scheme. Although you don't have to exactly paint your home with what's in the colour wheel, you can use it to choose the shades.

You can then add some splash of colours using your furniture, paintings on the wall, and other ornaments in the room. For instance, you can have a warm wall colour and dark one for your furniture.

3. Flooring

Flooring is another vital consideration to designing your home. While it provides comfort underfoot, you can use flooring to inject your personality and set the room's tone. Depending on your preference, there are many flooring materials you can choose from.

One of the trendiest flooring options is to use reclaimed wood. Through this, you can achieve a vintage flooring design. Another classic flooring design uses ceramic tiles for your kitchen, bathroom, or hallway. For a practical flooring choice, you can go for vinyl. It can also provide warmer touch underfoot.

4. Lighting

Now that you have an idea on designing your yard, walls, and floors, you should also consider your home's lighting. It includes lighting fixtures and natural light sources from all over your house.

Thus, each room should have, at least, three sources of light such as ambient lighting (decorative, candles, or scones), specific lighting (table or task), and general lighting (pendant or overhead). You can also use builder-grade fixtures to transform the look of the room.

As for the fixtures, choose the right ones. Coloured fixtures can tint light, resulting in a more relaxed, warmer, or creamier hue. On the other hand, white shades can make the light's tone colder.

More importantly, you should maximise natural light by keeping your windows bigger and curtains lighter.

Conclusion

You don't need to stick to rules when designing your home, but doing so can highlight your home's features. It can also show your personal preferences with the right designing strategies. By considering the mentioned tips above, you can achieve a home with a personal touch from you.
