Moving House During A Global Pandemic: Information And Advice To See You Through

Posted On Wednesday, 07 April 2021 23:38

We all know how frustrating it is to have COVID-19 put a stopper to our plans. While many states have put stay at home orders in place, most states still allow buyers to purchase homes. The American housing market has seen a surge in interest over recent months.

During this time, realtors, removal services, valuers and show homes will continue to work, so although there will only be some slight differences with moving during a pandemic. Here is some information and advice to see you through your move:

Conduct All Viewings Through Video Wherever Possible

Realtors will be able to provide a video link to most properties for virtual viewings. In-person viewings are also allowed, but you should only consider this if you’re serious about making an offer.

Following the COVID-19 best practices, you should wear a mask and practice social distancing as you look around the property to ensure your safety. You should also try to touch as little as possible.

Plan As Much As Possible

You must take the pandemic and any current lockdown restrictions in your state into consideration when planning your move.

Unless they’re in your social bubble, family and friends now might not be able to help move your furniture. Instead, hire a removal service if you aren’t able to move everything by yourself. Removal firms have been provided with the relevant training to make sure they know how to do their job in a COVID-safe way, so they can continue to work throughout lockdown.

If you haven’t yet put an offer down, you should still already have a financial plan in place to cover the mortgage and other moving costs. Make a list of your savings, bills and expenses to determine the amount of money you can spend.

Do your research to find the best mortgage lender for your home loan, as each lender will offer slightly different things. Lenders like The Home Loan Expert are committed to getting their clients the best possible mortgage rate for their home loan type, making the process of moving house as simple as possible.

Stay Flexible

Shelter in place restrictions are likely to slow down the moving process, so it’s important to stay patient and flexible throughout.

One cause for delay is if you, the seller, or anybody else involved in the move develops COVID symptoms. If that happens, there could be an isolation period from the day the infected person’s symptoms first began.

Make Sure Any Necessary Repairs Happen Prior To Moving In

If your new home needs any repairs, maintenance, or gas and electrical safety checks, then these should take place as soon as the previous owners have vacated the property- and before you move in.

This is to ensure that physical contact is kept to a minimum, to help prevent the spread of the virus. Be sure to continually check shelter in place rules throughout your move, as these are ever-changing.
