A recent analysis looked into housing growth over time and pulled data from the last three decades. While they found a variety of growth in different areas of the country, three neighboring states are ahead of the others.

Nevada

This state saw an astonishing amount of housing availability in the last 30 years, more than doubling it’s availability. Over 15% of homeowners moved in between 2015-2016, with over 37% almost moving there in 2017 or later. Over 50% of homes were built between 1990 and 2009.

Utah

With an 89% increase in housing availability, Utah saw the second highest percentage of housing growth. 15.4% of that happened between 2010 and 2019. The most recent availability of current housing per capita is 2.83 units, the highest in the country and higher than the national average of 2.35 units.

Arizona

Finally, Arizona rounds out the top three, seeing an increase of over 85% in available housing between 1990-2019. It’s current available housing per capita is also above the national average, at 2.37 units.
