Solar Panel Installation: 4 steps to going solar

Posted On Tuesday, 03 August 2021 22:51

Earlier, we were reliant on the local electricity provider in our area. Still, with the advent of technology, we have learned the art of harnessing the energy of other sources like sunlight, wind and converting it into electricity. Solar Panels have become very popular for both commercial as well as personal usage.

Solar panels are not only eco-friendly but also a cheap source of electricity over the long run. Today we have devised ways even to have our solar power plant at our house.

But there are several things we need to consider before solar panel installation. Here is a list of things you should consider before solar panel installation:

1) Condition of the roof

The solar panel is usually installed on the roof. The condition of the roof is one of deciding factors for solar panel installation. Usually, the top has a lifespan of over 20 years, whereas a solar panel can work for 30 years.

Thus, the roof's condition should be good as it is very costly to remove the solar panels and re-install them again before installation. Check the state of the top and repair the roof if there is any damage. Both the roof and solar panel must have a comparable lifetime to reduce this re-installation cost.

The size of the roof is also an essential factor as a smaller roof will not produce a sufficient amount of electricity. Else, the return on investment will not be much. The roofing material is also crucial as it helps in determining the weight your roof can handle. Thus, the layout and material of the top are essential parameters too.

2) Your Location

Sunlight is essential for the solar panel to work. The greater the sunlight your panel will receive, the more incredible energy will be produced.

The weather condition also influences the amount of energy produced by solar panels in your area. We all know weather conditions keep on changing daily. Rainfall, hurricanes, thunderstorms, floods, storms, hail, and other severe weather conditions are essential parameters before solar panel installation. Excess of such calamities may damage your panel, and thus, a low amount of electricity is produced.

The South, Southeast, and southwest direction fetch the maximum amount of electricity compared to the roof placed in the north order. Keep in mind that no tall objects also stand in the way as it will reduce the impact.

3) Choice of Panel

The first thing you need to consider while choosing the panel is a ground-mounted panel or a roof-mounted panel. The ground-mounted panel are expensive and require more maintenance, usually installed in a north-facing roof within minimum space.

Another thing to consider is the material of which the panel is made. The panels are of three types monocrystalline solar panels, polycrystalline solar panels, and thin-film solar panels. Understand the panel's efficiency and converse with the panel expert about your needs and suitability according to the area.

4) The Contracting Company

Solar panel installation requires massive investment, and thus we must consider the right company for the purpose. If you hire a quality supplier, he will provide a good warranty and the requisite amount of maintenance and servicing from time to time.

Your needs also help in narrowing the company. You need to choose the company which meets your needs and standard. Other than keeping in mind that you choose the right company for installation. Read about the company on the internet. You can even call the company and ask them to share their previous work with you and the client details.

You can reach out to your friends, family, or colleagues if they have hired any such company in the past. Always explore all the possible options and then hire the company.
