Living a green lifestyle provides many benefits, namely being able to conserve natural resources and reduce environmental pollution. This lifestyle also leads to a healthier life, encourages change in the community, and raises self-awareness in children.

If you have been unsuccessful in your attempts to achieve eco-friendly apartment living in the past, this article can help. Aside from selecting an apartment with sustainable features, such as trash and recycling services, and smart devices, you should keep up with the latest trends on sustainable apartment living so you know how to attain an eco-friendly lifestyle.

The more informed we are about sustainable apartment living, the easier it’ll be for us to adopt the same lifestyle!

1. Conserve Water

Contrary to popular belief, we don’t have to spend tons of money to achieve a sustainable lifestyle. Merely conserving water in our apartments is enough to head towards that goal.

Conserving water is a must because it lessens the environmental impact of treated wastewater disposal and lowers our energy bills. When we conserve water, we can better prepare for future droughts, strengthen communities, and make water available for recreational activities.

We can conserve water in our apartment by turning off the faucet when brushing our teeth, minimizing shower time, and purchasing a water purifier. Fixing leaks and insulating pipes around the apartment is also a great way to conserve water.

2. Maximize Natural Lighting

Although beneficial, the use of electricity generates tons of waste. For example, the mechanisms used for generating electricity emit greenhouse gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect. The delivery of electricity can also harm wildlife, especially flying animals.

To minimize electricity use in our apartments, it’s best to use natural lighting whenever possible. Instead of turning on the lights during the daytime, we should open up our windows to let the sunlight in. Adding more mirrors and other shiny objects will also make our apartment brighter, reducing the need to turn on any lights.

3. Invest in Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products

Cleaning is essential when we live in an apartment, but this doesn’t mean that we should use any kind of product just to get the job done. For us to clean our homes without damaging the environment, we should invest in eco-friendly cleaning products.

When shopping for eco-friendly products, look carefully at the label and buy those that are non-toxic and derived from organic and natural ingredients. We should also use cleaning products that are biodegradable as these don’t negatively impact the environment and wildlife.

For a cheaper alternative, we can also make cleaning products by using items found in our apartments. For example, we can mix four tablespoons of baking soda with one quart of warm water to clean and deodorize our kitchens. Mixing water, white vinegar, rubbing alcohol, and essential oil also makes for a great glass cleaner.

Practice Makes Perfect

Living a sustainable lifestyle in an apartment isn’t that hard, right? Sure, making changes to our daily routines can seem inconvenient at first, but over time, these changes will eventually become innate to us.

As long as we’re consistent with our efforts, it won’t be long before we can successfully achieve sustainable apartment living!
