Moving day should not be taken lightly! You have a schedule to worry about and you can't ignore the emotional side of things either. Organization is the key to making the big move happen swiftly and efficiently.

Leaving a few seemingly last-minute jobs can make the event even more stressful, so here are five of our favorite tips to help you get focused and organized.

1. Get your pets and children out of the way on the day of your move. Little ones can cause accidents that land them in the hospital, therefore, piling up the stress. Not to mention, your pets and kids also find moving undoubtedly emotional, so keeping them at a friend or relative's house is always a good idea.

2. Wilson Removals and Storage advise you create a so-called survival box to help tide you through the big move. Here are some ideas of things you can include:

-pen and paper to take notes on

-drinks and snacks in case you get hungry

-gloves to help you load and unload boxes

-toiletries and necessary medication you may need

-a map to show you the way

-spare lightbulbs and a flashlight in case your new property has no lighting

3. Get prepared for your removalist company the day before your big move. Dismantle furniture and disconnect appliances ahead of schedule as they work fast! As for bedding, keep a box handy so when you wake up on the day of the move, you can put your bedding away right off the bat. Don't forget to place sheets on the flooring to prevent tracking in dirt.

Keep a vacuum cleaner on hand to do last-minute clean-up. Although, it may be an altogether better option to hire cleaners or a friend.

4. Keep everyone on the same page, and make sure to discuss your plans with the removalist foreman. Get his mobile number just in case! Make sure to color code each box and room so the removals crew knows where each item should go. Discuss ahead of time where you will need your heavy furniture put to prevent mishaps.

Make your life easier by keeping important phone numbers on hand such as your mortgage lender, real estate agent, solicitor, friends and family.

5. Don't spend the first day attempting to unpack anything but the bare necessities. You can hone the feeling of home in your foreign place by putting up familiar objects that you associated your last home with. Old photos and wall hangings is always a great way to start the process of settling in. Don't forget the importance of adding window treatments to make the place feel cozy. Here are some tips.

These types of items are best transported by you in your car. Leaving them with your removals company may cause them to get misplaced along the way, causing additional trouble.

Moving is a big concept and there are plenty of emotions directly tied into it. Knowing how to make a new place feel more familiar can make your home cozy and family oriented. Associating a new space with the things you're used to can help you settle down and jump the hurdles easier! Don't forget: your removals company is there to help.
