Tips For Renting With Pets

There are millions of renters out there who are pet owners. With that said, every situation is not ideal.

If you are a pet owner and you want to have a great experience when renting property from others, you should pay close attention to the following advice.

Ask

Many people do not bother to ask about pets being allowed, especially when it doesn't specify anywhere that they are. A report from 2014 showed that tenants who inquired about pets and were willing to go the extra mile to make sure there were no issues had excellent outcomes. You should take a chance and ask, and make sure that you respect whatever the answer is.

Offer Additional Rent

Tenants who were willing to pay more in order to have pets found that landlords and property managers were far more receptive to the idea. If it is possible for you to pay a little more to boost the chances of a furry roommate being approved, you should definitely make an offer.

Keep Records

Make sure that you have vaccination certificates, vet receipts and any paperwork that you may be asked for later. If you like, you can give them to your landlord regularly so they know your pet is in very good health. This will let them know that you are a very caring and decent tenant.

Pet's-Eye View

Consider your pet when choosing a property. If you were a dog, would you want to live in a cramped space with no backyard? You should consider their needs along with yours when you are looking for property. A perfect place will be able to fulfill the needs of you both.

Choose Wisely

If you are already renting and you want a pet, you should think about the available space you have. Maybe a few goldfish will be better than a Doberman.

Get All Agreements In Writing

If you offer extra rent for your pet or you are testing the arrangements, you should ask for everything in writing. If you have an emotional support animal letter, be sure to show it. If there are any disputes later, you will have documentation to support your claims. You should consider drawing up a Pet Agreement that details all that will be required of you.
