Pros And Cons Of Walk In Wardrobes

Whether you’re in the process of building your dream home or renovating your current one, it’s essential that each bedroom is provided with plenty of storage. If you have the space, you might be interested in walk in wardrobes – these are often comprised of shelving, hanging space and drawers that can be used to store myriad clothing and accessories. It is important, however, to be aware that there are a number of pros and cons to contend with.

Advantages

Perfect for Organisation
If you are the kind of person who has a lot of clothes, shoes or accessories, one of these wardrobes will be your organisational heaven. You won’t need to worry about playing Jenga with your possessions, nor will you need to worry that everything will come tumbling out each time you open the door. Your clothing will also be spread out and easier to see.

Perfect for Privacy
One of the biggest advantages of a walk in wardrobe is that it provides you with maximum privacy whilst getting dressed. It is less likely that one of the kids is going to come barging in on you, and your significant other can get on with their morning routine. Many closets are also large enough for a safe to keep your jewellery secure.

Maximises your Space
Finally, these wardrobes can help you to maximise whatever space you have available. This is particularly useful in bedrooms that are oddly shaped, as the addition of the closet can help to “square off” niches. These rooms can be whatever shape you desire, which will be much more effective than just covering up the nooks with more décor.

Disadvantages

Easy to Misplace Things
If your wardrobe hasn’t been well organised, however, you could find that it’s actually worse than an overfilled built in. The main reason for this is that there are a lot of little nooks and crannies where items to wedge themselves and go missing. Some people have been known to spend hours searching for items that weren’t in the correct spot.

Tends to be Expensive
It should come as no surprise that this is the most expensive option, as it requires more carpentry, more lighting and more time to complete. You can often get away without the installation of lighting in a built in wardrobe, but it is a must for a walk in – otherwise, you’ll have no way of seeing all the clothing you have meticulously arranged!

Sacrifice Space Elsewhere
If you are renovating your existing home, you’ll find that the only way to add one of these wardrobes is to sacrifice space from elsewhere within the home. Often, it means that the other bedrooms get a little smaller, that your ensuite isn’t as luxurious as it could be or that your living space is left with awkward niches. If you can live with this, go for it!

As you can see, there are a number of pros and cons associated with the inclusion of a walk in wardrobe – but the same can be said for all of the options available to you. To ensure that you’ve made the right choice for your home and needs, you will be required to weigh up each of the pros and cons. Some of these things you will be able to live with, others will be deal breakers. Do not hesitate to speak with a professional – they can answer all of your questions.
