Limits of a Home Insurance Policy

Many people try to avoid taking insurance because they feel they never come through when needed. This is why it is important you work with a credible, professional insurance company. At the age of 65, Michael and his wife have been able to own their home after a very long while. Like any couple, they were overjoyed to have been able to attain this feat. In less than 18 months, the couple came home one evening to see fire service struggling to quench a fire that had engulfed their home. The devastation they felt at that moment knew no bounds. Michael was able to contact his insurance company in no distant time.

The couple had to stay in a hotel while they figured out what steps to take next. Luckily for them, it was just a small area of the house that got damaged. After proper analysis by the adjuster, the couple filed for claims for repairs of the damaged property. The insurer got a contractor to come look at the damage, evaluate the cost of repair, and eventually paid for the repairs. The company also paid for the hotel bills all through their stay while the house was under construction.

After just four days of moving in, the couple discovered they have a faulty pipe in the basement. Since they figured the repairs were below the deductible limit, they decided to get a contractor. The contractor evaluated the faulty pipe and discovered it was a leak cause by the previous contractor that repaired the damage caused by the fire. The cost for repairs was now higher than the deductible and the Michael decided to call the insurance company. After series of meetings, the insurer only agreed to pay a part for the faulty pipe repair. In a matter of weeks, Michael and his wife were looking for another insurer to work with.
