If you are planning to install backsplash tiles or bathroom tiles, you need to choose the grout that you are going to use.

Epoxy grout seems to be well-liked. What accounts for its popularity?

You are probably familiar with cement-based grout. It is largely made of cement powder dissolved in water. Epoxy grout, on the other hand, consists of filler powder and epoxy resins. It is known for its durability.  It is different from other types of grout because it does not soak up water. It is also unlikely to retain dirt residue.  You do not have to deal with deep grime in the tile joints.

Epoxy grout is the ideal choice for areas that are subject to high levels of humidity or steam, including steam rooms, swimming pools, wading pools, and shower rooms. Tiles, no matter how tightly set, need protection from water damage. Epoxy gives this protection. It serves to close and seal the tiles’ joints. This action is necessary to prevent the growth of mold and mildew that are attracted to moist places. It is particularly important in areas where humidity is high – powder rooms, kitchens, shower rooms, and bathrooms.

Epoxy is not coarse or stiff. It is elastic, flexible, and durable. It does not age with time. It does not shrink. It is flexible and adjusts to changes in the weather.

Cement grout draws grease, grime, and dirt. You have to spend a lot of time and effort to get rid of the grime and filth that stick to it. Epoxy grout, on the other hand, is easy to clean. Being non-porous, it does not soak up grease, attract dirt, or absorb stains. You simply have to use a basic alkaline grout cleaner to dissolve whatever filth settles on its surface.

Epoxy, unlike sand-based and cement grout, has low absorbency. It does not absorb water. Water simply stays on the surface and eventually dries out or gets wiped off. It is the grout of choice for outdoor areas, as well as for kitchens and bathrooms.

You do not have to worry about how the epoxy grout will look against the tiles. You have a wide range of colors to choose from so that the grout you opt for can blend beautifully with the tiles that you use in these areas.

Tiles with epoxy grout require less maintenance. They are cleaner and thus require less scrubbing. It is the newer, cleaner, and better way of installing tiles.

Epoxy grout is a little more expensive than other types of grout. However, the people who have invested in it seem to find the benefits they get from it are well worth the extra expense. The tiles not only look nicer, they are also way cleaner and germ-free.

If you want an easy-to-maintain solution for your kitchen or shower tiles, go for epoxy grout. It is the popular choice among home owners, builders, interior designers, and renovators. It is ideal for use in commercial buildings, as well as in residential homes.
