Thinking about moving to Fairfax VA?

Written by Posted On Sunday, 11 December 2016 11:10

Before moving to any city, it is important to get a feel for the local culture and economy to make sure that it’s really where you want to be. Fairfax, VA is a city with a population of just over 23,000. The city is 17 miles west of Washington, D.C. and the area surrounding it is known as Fairfax County. It is located in the exact center of Fairfax County and is one of the many gems of Northern Virginia real estate. Fairfax is full of culture since it is near Washington D.C. and offers a mix of space for residents, small business owners, and offices.

On average, homes in Fairfax sell for about $500,000. Home styles vary between condominiums, townhomes, and detached homes. However, home prices vary depending on the area of Fairfax – places closer to the urban areas are more expensive, while places farther away are less expensive. There are options for everyone who wants to move to Fairfax.

The public schools in Fairfax are as follows: Daniels Run Elementary School, Providence Elementary School, Mosby Woods Elementary School, Fairfax Academy, Lanier Middle School, and Fairfax High School. The public schools in Fairfax are often ranked among the best in the country, so people with families will find it a good place to raise kids. Fairfax is also home to George Mason University, which has a student population of around 34,000. The school is well-known for its economics program.

Fairfax is home to many points of interest culturally and historically, including the Fairfax Courthouse, Fairfax Elementary School, and Old Town Hall. The Fairfax Courthouse, built in 1800, is the oldest building in the city. Fairfax Elementary School is the oldest two-story school in Fairfax and was the main school in the city until 1925. The Old Town Hall was built in 1900 and has served as a focal point of Fairfax since then. These are just a few of the cultural spots to see – there are much more that are just as steeped in history.

Fairfax was named number 3 on the Forbes list of “Top 25 Places to Live Well” for being a great place for entrepreneurs to start their business. The unemployment rate is below the national average, so there is plenty of opportunity for those looking to move there. The median household income, as of 2012, was $100,584 and over 50% of the people living there have earned at least a Bachelor’s degree. It is one of the wealthiest and most well-educated cities (and counties) in the country.

If you are a small family looking for a place to grow and raise children, Fairfax is a great place to move to, especially given that over 70% of its housing consists of detached homes. However, it’s also a great place for entrepreneurs, young and old, to start a small business. For fresh college graduates, there is even apartment-style housing and because of its proximity to Washington D.C., this makes it excellent for commuting and staying near to the urban center of the country. Fairfax has a lot to offer anyone looking to move and start a life, no matter what you’re looking for.
