Starting Out as a New Realtor

The real estate market is a hard market to break into. A lot of people will tell you to stay away from it and to just get a regular desk job that will pay you on a consistent basis. But with the right mindset and the right kind of skills you can become a successful real estate agent within the first year of working.

 

You may have some idea about what kind of money you want to make and how many houses you will need to sell in order to reach that number. If do not know any of that information you can figure out later.

 

Here are the 5 things you will need to be a successful realtor:

Get Ready to Work Hard

The biggest factor on whether or not you will be successful in the real estate business is going to be your work ethic. This is not the kind of job that you can expect to be successful if you are not willing to put in any hard work or be self motivated. There won’t be a teacher who has specific deadlines for you every step of the way. If you do work in an office setting you may have deadlines but you will be responsible for your work and how successful you are with your clients.  

Don’t Get Discouraged

You are going to put in a lot of work and you may not see any results. You will have to do a lot of networking and talking to people and you still may not get anyone who is interested in purchasing a house.

 

This is completely normal. You are going to do a lot of work before you sell your first house. Once you do sell your first house you will have a feeling of accomplishment and that all of your hard work finally paid off.

Be Confident

Of course you do not want to come off as arrogant or someone who thinks they are better than everyone else. But how you present yourself to others is going to be a major component of your job since you are working with people everyday.

 

If you are planning on creating your own company confidence with be especially important for how your employees see you. You will want to stay organized with an onboarding guide and follow best practices so your company can stand out compared to other competitors.  

Know Your Numbers

This is going to be another part that can really change how you work as a real estate agent. Most real estate agents will work backwards when it comes to numbers. This means that they will figure out how much they want to back within the year. Let’s say you want to make 6 figures. You will have to find out how many houses you will need to sell in order to make that much. You will also want to know how much you will get paid as the real estate agent after brokerage fees and everything else is settled. You can then find out how many contacts you will need to make in order to sell that many houses.

Start to Meet People

The real estate field is a space where people matter. This could be seen as a sales job but this is not the kind of job where you are making a bunch of random calls and making sales. You will have clients where you spend months with them trying to find a house that matches their needs. After finding a house that they want there is still a lot of paperwork that is done on your end where you will be advocating for your client and making sure they get the best price. Networking is going to be essential as a real estate.
