Whether you just bought your house and want to build its value over time or you are trying to sell your house and want to sell it for more money, there are simple things you can do it increase the value of your home. Most of these things are fairly simple and won’t require you to reinvent the wheel or demolish your house and start from the ground up. They may require some extra help from different companies if you are not in the do it yourself mood. 


Here are 5 different ways to increase the value of your house:

Update Your Bathroom and Kitchen

If you are going to do update one room in your house, your bathroom and kitchen are the best options. This is because they have a lot of appliances and things that get used on a daily basis. This can be done by hiring someone to come into your house and redo the rooms so you don’t have to do anything. Or you can do some simple things yourself to save on money, such as buying a new refrigerator, toilet and sink fixtures.   

Add and Renovate

If you don’t feel like going through the hassle of updating rooms or you feel like your house is already up to date you can add some home security systems to up the value of your already great house. This can be smart technology that has a video doorbell so you can see who is outside when they get close to your house. It can also be any kind of automation system that makes the life of the homeowner easier it can increase the value of your home. 

Make It Eco-Friendly and Efficient

If automation is something you are not personally going to use or you do not want alarms going off any time you lock yourself out of the house, you can go the eco-friendly route. This can include windows that keep your house cooler than regular windows and solar panels. Updating your heating and cooling systems is a good way to make your house run more efficiently. Utilities such as electrical systems and water systems can also help keep your house a little more efficient than the house next door and could be a deal breaker for a potential home buyer. 

Add Extra Square Footage

This is another really good way to add some extra value to your home. You will want to check the structure and integrity of your home before you go knocking any walls down because it could cause more damage and work for you in the long run.


If you just got your house and plan on having it for some time, you can add extra rooms and build on to your house. This is a good way to create more space for you to enjoy while adding value to your home. If you are selling it and need some quick ways to add extra square footage look at what walls you can eliminate and your overall floor plan to see what can be changed. 

Don’t Forget About The Outside

Yes, the outside of your house and your lawn counts towards the value of your house. To increase the value of it, you can add some landscaping, walkways, outdoor pool and plants. This can be done by hiring a contractor to do it for you or getting some of your friends together and doing it over a certain period of time. If you feel like your outside is in good shape you can always focus on the exterior of your house such as getting new siding, shingles and a fresh coat of paint.
