Making Your House Feel Like a Home

Whether you are living in a new apartment or just bought a house, you want to be able to feel comfortable when you are in your space. There is nothing worse than moving to your new space and feeling like it is not your home.  Luckily this feeling does not have to last forever and you can make your new space feel like home. You do not have to go all out and spend a lot of money to finally make your house be a place of relaxation and comfort.

Here are the 5 things you should consider changing up while moving in and getting settled into your new space:

The Framework

Even if you have fabulous furniture and really awesome accessories, your walls and decoration can really bring down the ambience of your entire house. Starting with the framework of your house is a great place to start because it is the basic layout of your house.

Having your walls and framework done before you finish styling the rest of your house is a great way to protect your furniture and decorations. This also prevents you from having to move furniture and things out of different rooms as they are renovated.

Furniture

After your walls are painted, have wallpaper and are to your personal liking, it is time to bring in the furniture. Use your furniture in a way that will compliment your walls and also the whole entire room. If you do not feel too adventurous with your walls, you can always use furniture to accent the room. A nice bright blue couch can make a room with only white walls really stand out, in a good way.

Scents and Smells

While your home make look picture perfect, if it does not smell nice it can totally wreck the picture. Be careful to not overpower your home with too strong of scent, this can have a bad effect on your home too. Try using scents that are nice and noticeable but also light and not super heavy.

You can use a diffuser that diffuses essential oils such as copaiba oil to make your home smell calm and relax your body. Change your scents to match the season. Summer can feature fruity scents while the fall and the winter can feature more pine and spice scents.

Accessories

While your home may look good already with nice walls and furniture, so accessorizing is really the icing on the cake. Adding accessories can add an extra pop of color and class, allowing your rooms to be amazing.

If you don't really know where to start, you can always start with images. Pictures can help solidify a theme in a specific room without making it too cluttered. While accessorizing can help your room, it can also hinder your room by making it extremely cluttered extremely fast.

Personalize

At the end of the day your space is where you live and does not have to look picture perfect all of the time. Do not beat yourself up too bad if the dishes are not done when you go to bed or your house isn’t quite what you want it to be right now. The best thing you can do is to make sure that you feel good in your home.

Change things up. Add family photos or projects that you have done without your life. Display your hobbies and travels, make this space yours. There is only one of you, so make your space reflect you and your interests. Better yet, create a space that helps and encourages you to explore your hobbies and interests.

There is nothing better than having a space that you can call your own. Personalizing it and styling it to how you want is going to be amazing as well. What are some things that you have done to make your house a home? Comment below to start the conversation.
