In the beginning there was Uptown. Shortly after Downtown. Today, we celebrate Midtown. Dallas is constantly in the throes of construction. You can’t turn a quick corner without an orange cone in the next lane, or hop a freeway without fun loving construction signs. All the while making your commute a little longer than it had to be. Well, Midtown joined the construction junction and now the city may never be the same.
Dallas Midtown is set to be something epic. Between Dallas North Tollway, Galleria Mall, Momfort Drive Preston Road, and several other sections of Midtown, change is coming. Plans to improve the area include a trolley route, hike and bike trails which will connect to White Rock Lake, cable car route, luxurious hotels, iconic office towers, upscale living arrangements for families, 16 screen movie theater, boutique shopping and plenty of eateries and entertainment venues.
Renovations to Dallas Midtown is expected to cost 3 billion bucks. That’s no small chunk of change. According to Linda Koop of the Dallas City Council the idea is to create a city within a city. And things in the area have already begun improving. Valley View Mall is now a haven for artists, housing several studios and art galleries within the mall along with the Midtown ArtWalk every third Saturday.
So prepare to stay in the throes of construction a little bit longer. But if the payoff includes soaring through the air on a cable car, eating some fancy food and being in a constant world of entertainment, then hey, I can stick it out with the cones a few more years.
