It is that time again! Time to celebrate the Chinese New Year! If you are not  familiar with the Chinese New Year, it is a time to celebrate the beginning of the next year on the Lunar Calendar.

This year, the New Year starts on February 19th and ends on March 5th. The dates vary each year, but always start between January 21st and February 20th. The Chinese Lunar Calendar is associated with the Chinese Zodiac. There are 12 animals in the Zodiac and 2015 is the year of the Wooden Sheep, and is the 4712th Chinese year.

The Chinese New Year is the longest celebrated holiday in China. Officially the first 3 days of the New Year are statutory, but 4 more days are added onto that to offer 7 days in a row of holiday.

This is a time for family and no matter where members of the family are, they are expected and will return to celebrate the holiday together. Reunion dinner is organized for New Year’s Eve. The family joins together and has dinner to kick off the New Year celebrations.

The celebrations throughout the holiday can include fireworks, dragon dances, lion dances and a lot of decorations. The color of the holiday is Red and it will be seen everywhere! This is the year of the Sheep, so there will be sheep decorations also.
