Community Profile of Nanuet, New York 30 Miles from New York City

Nanuet is located in Clarkstown, Rockland County New York.  It is approximately 33 miles North of New York City, just North of the New Jersey border. In between Nanuet and New York City is the Hudson River. Commuting from Nanuet to New York City can take less than an hour, but with traffic is much longer during rush hour. Most of the commuters who live in Nanuet either take a train or the Coach commuter bus to New York City for work. There is both a commuter bus stop and train station in Nanuet. In fact, some of the commuter bus stops are within the popular housing communities in Nanuet.

While the average home price of a home within 40 miles of New York City can be around $700,000 for North Jersey and Westchester County, the average homes for sale in Nanuet in 2014 were priced around $400,000. Due to its relatively inexpensive housing compared to other towns that are just as close to New York City, and lots of recreation opportunities, CNN Money ranked Nanuet 76 on its annual 100 Best Places to Live list in 2011. Nanuet was also ranked 24th on CNN Money's annual 100 Best Places to Live list in 2007. 

Nanuet is a pleasant suburb that has good schools, convenient access to shopping and the outdoors. Most of the students in Nanuet attend schools at the Nanuet School District, which has a 9/10 rating from  The great reputation of the Nanuet schools make homes for sale in Nanuet School District very popular.

It is perhaps the shopping hub of Rockland County. The Palisades Mall, one of the largest mall in the country, is in Nanuet. It has lots of shopping and dining options, a Dave and Busters, a movie theater, an ice skating rink, bowling alley, movie theater, and comedy club. It basically has everything you are looking for! In addition to the Palisades Mall, there is the Nanuet Mall that has been improved in recent years and has upscale outdoor shopping. Along Route 59, the major road in Rockland County, you will also find many stripe malls and big box stores in Nanuet.

Nanuet is more than just shopping though. Nanuet Lake Park, with a large pool that is designed to look like a lake, with fun slides, is a popular spot for the summer. The park offers picnicking, sports fields, and swimming. Nanuet is also close to Harriman State Park and Bear Mountain State Park, which provide a lot of hiking, camping, and outdoor fun.
