High Mountain Golfing In Park City, Utah

Written by Posted On Monday, 13 July 2015 15:17

Park City, Utah is world famous for its skiing. However, when the snow melts and the courses green-up there is no finer place for high mountain golf than Park City. Not only are the courses designed by some of the biggest names in golf but the scenery will make you forget (almost) you just shanked it.

Of Course There Are Courses

Park City, with a population of around 8,000 people, is home to 15 golf courses. Park City is home to seven public and eight private courses. There are several other golf courses in the communities surrounding Park City. In other words, you can golf all weekend and still not see them all. And that’s okay because we do not mind if you come back again. Eight of the courses have been designed by the legends of golf including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Pete Dye, among others. If you are looking for the best, then that would be Tom Fazio’s Glenwild which has twice been named Best of State. The public courses are located either in or near Olympic venues like The Canyons and Soldier Hollow.

Getting Here And Staying Here

It might be tempting to assume since Park City is in the Wasatch Mountains that it is likely quite a ways from an airport. Not so. The Salt Lake International Airport is a short 25 minutes from town. Of all the high altitude golf destinations in the Intermountain West region, no course is closer to a major airport than Park City. So if the only driving you are interested in doing is out on the course, Park City is your high altitude golf destination. When you are ready to wind down from a great day on the greens, you absolutely cannot beat the 4 and 5 star accommodations and the Zagat rated dining. With its reputation for luxury, Park City also offers a wide variety of spa services to help you soothe those sore muscles. Park City also boasts an active night life and a wealth of entertainment options.

The Only Caution

There is one thing to consider when planning your ultimate high altitude golf experience in Park City, the altitude. Park City is at 7,000 feet so you will need to take all the high altitude exercise recommendations into consideration. It would be advisable to arrive at least day before you plan on golfing to give your body a chance to acclimate so you have the best round of your life. The mountain air is typically as dry as it is thin so you may not notice thirst like you would at lower elevations so stay hydrated.
