Although winter in North Texas currently consists of 65 degree weather, it is important to be prepared when the "snow" hits. Here are some winter hacks that you'll want to remember:
At last, hand sanitizer does more than just kill 99% of germs! Deice your car lock by rubbing hand sanitizer on your key and lock.
Don't want to use hand sanitizer? No worries, just whip out your lighter to heat your key. This will help the frozen lock become unstuck. Be careful not to touch the tip of the key on accident or you will burn yourself!
I don't know of many people who like to bike in snow but if you are just dying to cycle somewhere, add zip ties to your wheels to create snow tires. You'll be cruising in your ski mask like a boss.
Who said socks were just for feet or puppets? Grab a pair of socks (preferably clean) and put them on your windshield wipers to prevent them from getting stuck. If you are feeling on the wild side, pick a crazy pair to really show your personality to your neighbors.
Grab a large Ziploc bag and pretend your side mirrors are a sandwich! This will prevent your mirrors from icing over and save you loads of time defrosting.
Reverse your ceiling fan so it spins clockwise. Now this may seem odd but this actually pushes the warm air back into the room to help keep you nice and toasty.
Cold months often mean constantly being plagued with fogged up windshields and windows, a dangerous condition if you’re on the road. Lets face it, none of want to roll down the window and let the freezing air defrost the windows for us. In fact, I think most people would rather drive with foggy widnows than dare let the cold inside their car once it's warm. Instead, keep a chalkboard eraser in your car.
Put shaving cream on the inside of your windows and then wipe it off. Shaving cream has a lot of the same ingredients that commercial defoggers have, and it leaves a layer on the window to keep the fog off. I honestly imagine this process looks a lot like the Nair hair removal commercials!
Spice up your glove-box by adding a pair of socks to it. By putting the socks OVER your shoes, this trick gives you better traction in case you have to push your car over ice, or you just need to walk in snow and ice for some reason. You'll break all sorts of fashion rules but your body will thank you when you don't slip on the ice.
Here is the easiest (and cheapest) deicer ever! Just mix three parts vinegar with one part water and spray the mixture onto your windshield to prevent ice from forming.
