A community you can connect with is something that many people look for when it comes to finding a new home. As a Realtor® part of my job is to help buyers find a place within a community where they can feel a sense of belonging. Communities offer different ways for people to work together, share, connect and help one another. Building community connections is what makes community programs and resources work to help those in need, and this is something I take to heart. While I am in the business of helping people achieve their home dreams, I also have the wonderful opportunity to help others in my community.
I am proud to be a member of an incredible organization committed to helping their community, which is also my community. The Santa Clara County Realtors (SCCR) Foundation is comprised of Realtors® and real estate associates who have a desire to give back directly to the communities in which they live. SCCR has a variety of programs established to help families in need, to help communities in times of disaster and to revitalize communities in ways for all to benefit. The core of the SCCR is to provide a funnel for people such as myself to collect funds and donations towards programs which support our communities and housing needs.
The SCCR Foundation provides grant awards to area programs and organizations which are making a direct difference in people’s lives. Some of the current grant recipients include California Community Partnership for Youth, Family & Children Services of Silicon Valley, Family Supportive Housing, Sacred Heart Community Service, San Jose Day Nursery, Sunday Friends Community, and Valley Verde. Each of these organizations helps others with compassion to rise above life’s challenges and get the assistance they need to improve their own lives. Through food, clothing, education and housing programs, these outreach groups are an integral part of many individuals and families. Their continuing work is what can build a stronger community.
There are also several fundraisers organized and sponsored by the SCCR. One event last year became my calling card in a way. I am firm believer in giving back to the community. I was fortunate enough to be able to contribute a significant amount to the $1 Million Dollar Homeless Challenge put on by the SCCR. This was a fundraising effort to encourage Realtors® to raise one million dollars together to help those who are most vulnerable in our community, the homeless. While I didn’t make it a goal to do so, as it turns out, I was the highest individual contributor to this cause. I share this not to gain a pat on the back, but to make note of what I feel is one of the most important benefits to being financially successful in what I do.
While I have enjoyed the success of helping families achieve their home dreams, I have also been fortunate enough to gain financial success. My financial success would not have much meaning if I were not willing and able to share it with my community. I see the importance and positive impact that comes from giving financial support to community programs. It is financial support from community members that allows for these programs to make a difference in so many lives. Because I am in a position to give back, I see it as a natural extension of my success to do so. The money we make is in part for a bigger cause or purpose than for our own use. I feel this with a passion in my heart, and will always strive to give back to my community for the sake of helping others.
