You may not think your entry area is a big deal when selling your home, but it’s a lot more important than you might imagine. Buying a home is often an EMOTIONAL BUY. When prospective buyers come to see your house, the overall exterior appearance of your property sets the first impression in the buyers’ minds. The space inside the front door – your entry or foyer – is the second thing they’ll see. This relatively small area is to the interior what the curb appeal is to the exterior. Make the most of this opportunity by adding drama, freshening up, and adding details that say, ‘Welcome!’
Here’s an example that can make a lot of difference when that buyer first walks through your door. It amazing what one piece of furniture can add drama to your entry. An interesting chair, for example, with a pot of flowers or a lush plant, like a fern, resting on the seat creates a simple, elegant statement. A side table grouped with a unique vase has the same effect. You can also highlight the entry with a single piece of art like a beautiful basket, or an interesting piece of art.
Oftentimes a throw rug in the entry will add color, texture, and warmth to your entry. When putting a throw rug over a bare floor, make sure to put a non-skid pad under it. If your entry or foyer is carpeted, a layer of another throw rug over the wall-to-wall will add dimension and interest.
By creating a smashing entry, you’ll win buyers the minute they step through the door. You’ll also instill a sense of excitement about the other wonderful features in your house. So don’t stop at the entry, look around and see other ways you can make each room of your home more inviting. Your effort will pay off in a faster sale at a price you will be pleased with. Not bad for a few hours of work to secure a fast and profitable sale!
