It is important to have ways to communicate with our civic leaders and organizations. When we are given innovative ways to get information and provide feedback, we as residents can take a hands on approach toward helping our communities. It is a wonderful thing to live in an area that cares and helps to provide connection between government entities and the people who live there.  In a recent announcement, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has launched a new online civic engagement tool, called the Open Air Forum. This tool is just what we need to be able to directly be involved with what is going on in terms of Air District topics and projects.

Within the Open Air Forum, residents of the Bay Area can weigh in on current discussions about upcoming projects, or ideas proposed by the District. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is the first one in the state to launch this type of forum. When you access the online forum you will see two main sections, Open and Closed Topics. For any open topic you can read the material provided by the Air District and then leave your input. This is especially helpful for those that are not able to make community meetings centered on Air District policies and strategies. After a topic is closed you can still access the discussion forum to keep yourself in the know of any outcomes and decisions. The Open Air Forum offers civic integration providing community connection through direct participation.

2016 marks a year to review and adapt the Bay Area Clean Air and Regional Climate Strategies, and currently you can weigh in on the ideas that have been presented at a series of open houses which were held at the start of the year. There is also a discussion open on the emission reduction measures that the Air District has proposed. Both topics are open through the end of the month, and will feature updates including the outcomes of the proposals so you can stay informed. You will also be able to access documents related to the topics posted on the forum, offering better transparency for everyone in the nine counties that the Air District serves.
