San Jose Poised to Raise the Bar for Urban Villages

Written by Posted On Monday, 09 October 2017 17:24

The housing issues around the Bay Area have been a hot topic of discussion for years. This region is at the top when it comes to demand for homes, and for home prices, month after month. San Jose in particular, is growing quickly, with the new developments already underway, this area shows no signs of stopping its growth anytime soon.

With future development needs in mind, and to provide varied housing options in years to come, San Jose Mayor, Sam Liccardo has put forth a proposal to add up to 25,000 residential properties over the next five years.

As reported by
The Mercury News, this proposal is geared to not only help all demographic levels attain good, affordable housing, but also to help retain the high-tech, high-money making businesses in the region. When employees of these businesses can live well in the region, the residential real estate market will continue strong and steady.

This new proposal will also help towards the Envision San Jose 2040 General Plan, which includes plans for 8 urban villages across San Jose. The focus of the newly proposed residential units is around downtown San Jose. As housing and economic trends have embraced the idea of providing work, play and living amenities within higher density, urban settings, the urban village is a concept is taking off across the country. Our region is ideal for this type of metro-reimagining, as we have already seen with McKinley Village in East Sacramento.

As the largest city in Northern California, San Jose is poised to take the urban village concept to new levels, where all income ranges can enjoy the benefits of integrating living, work and play together in a more sustainable fashion.
