Celebrity Architects Serve as Point of Sale for UK Homes

America's infatuation with celebrity, the famous and the mega-star is just the setting that could usher in a new trend from Britain to our shores here in America. According to overseas property portal property developers are now employing the services of celebrity architects to appeal to discerning luxury real estate buyers. The site cites Bom Sucesso Portugal as a prime example of a resort employing numerous architects to create a Design Resort Leisure Golf & Spa. Award winning architects such as Englishman David Chipperfield, Portugal's Alvaro Siza Vieira and Spain's Josep Llinas have all created their own designs for the resort.

"This is a unique resort of luxury designer homes and facilities not seen before in Europe," said Nicholas Marr CEO Homesgofast.com. "Bom Sucesso have brought together twenty three of the most renowned Portuguese and international architects to design different sets of villas or townhouses .Each project is unique and eco friendly with designs that are modernist with clean lines and plenty of light."

The Bom Sucesso project is said to be one of the most ambitious projects ever planned for a luxury tourist resort in Britain. Other resorts around the world using celebrity architects to get a leg up on the competition include:

  • Dr. Cem Kinay, a Turkish tourism magnate, is developing Dellis Cay with Piero Lissini who is designing the main hotel and a set of villas in his typically modern, bold and simple style. "The architects are our biggest selling point," he said. One bedroom apartments on Dellis Cay start at £835,000.

  • Melvin Villarroel, who is working on a community in Marbella, Spain called Lomas Club. Homes at this development are also being designed by Angel Taborda and Victoria Guana, and Villarroel is also working on several other new resorts in Spain.

  • Matteo Thun is designing a new set of fascinating apartments in the Austrian resort of Katschberg called Edel:Weiss. Sir Norman Foster is working on several projects; one is in Egypt called Serrenia and there is also Corniche Bay resort in Mauritius. These villas will only cost £1.7 million.

"Overseas property investors are now getting in on the action … many architects have created landmark buildings which can put a unique value to a designer home," Homesgofast.com added. "Some may say owning a designer home is more like owning a piece of art with a completely different future value."

In the spirit of fairness, American Architects building a brand here were recently recognized by the American Institute of Architects. AIA's ten recipients of the 2008 AIA Young Architects Award were honored as professionals who have been licensed 10 years or fewer regardless of their age; as individuals who have shown exceptional leadership and who have made significant contributions to the profession early in their careers. The Young Architects Award will be presented to the recipients at the AIA 2008 National Convention and Design Exposition in Boston in May. The Boston Society of Architects (BSA) nominated five of the 10 recipients.

The Top 10 2008 AIA Young Architects are: Victoria Beach, David Gamble, Emily A. Grandstaff-Rice, Kelly Hayes-McAlonie, Grace H. Kim, Samuel Lasky, Michael J. Meehan, David Montalba, Robert Pasersky, and Tim Schroeder

Like it or not, Americans are celebrity crazed. Most know more about confused pop singers and movie stars than how our three branches of government impact their lives. That alone tells this writer that the UK trend of properties designed by celebrity architects will soon be found in and around America's mountains, prairies and oceans. Builders, start building your celebrity.
