Insulation Tips Homeowners Need to Know

Written by Posted On Tuesday, 02 July 2019 09:02

Every home needs insulation. But, in addition to your basic wall cavity insulation, there are a variety of different ways you can go about insulating your house so that it saves more energy. Here are some clever insulation tips that all homeowners need to know.

Use Heavy Curtains

If your windows are a bit drafty, you don’t always need to seal them up or replace them. Sometimes all it takes is a pair of heavy curtains to make up for the deficit. Cellular shades like the heavy roman variety work great for blocking drafts.

Energy Efficient HVAC

It’s very important that you have an energy efficient hvac unit for your home. Proper insulation of your house will help make your hvac unit run smoothly. Maintain your hvac and consider duct cleaning services to keep your hvac unit in tip top shape.

Insulate your Doorways

Doors can be drafty as well, but you can’t put curtains on them. Weatherstrips make a fine alternative, however. Foam weatherstrips will help to create a seal, completely negating any drafts. You may also want to consider adding an architectural sunshade to prevent heat from warming up the air around the vulnerable and exposed areas of your home.

Roof Underlayments Are Underrated

Roof underlayments are like extra protection and insulation for your roof. They go below just about everything else on your roof and provide some serious insulation against air and moisture. A good roof underlayment made from polyiso foam roof insulation or another type of material can go a long way towards insulating your home from both hot and cold air that you don’t want getting in.

Install a Building Wrap

Much like roof underlayments, building wraps are continuous, gap-free insulation for the walls of your house. They go beneath the siding and block little gaps and cracks that otherwise would have let in moisture vapor.

Insulate Your Home the Best You Can

There are many different ways to add insulation to your home. You don’t need to use them all, but even stacking just a few of these tips together go a long way towards slashing your energy bill.
