How to Prepare Your Outdoor Spaces for Summer

The days are getting longer and the weather is getting warmer, which can only mean one thing: summer is almost here! If you're like most Aussies, you probably can't wait to spend some time soaking up the sun in the backyard. Before you can do that though, there are a few things you need to take care of.

In this article, we'll walk you through how to prepare your outdoor spaces for summer. From cleaning up the yard to investing in designer furniture for outdoor living spaces, here's how to make the most of your backyard this summer.

  1. 1. First thing's first - remove any clutter and sweep/mow the lawn, trimming any overgrown hedges or bushes

Now that the space is clean, it's time to add some personal touches. Planters, flags, lights, and other decorations can really help bring your outdoor spaces to life. String lights are a low-budget option, and a few carefully selected pot plants can also do wonders for creating some atmosphere without breaking the bank.

  1. 2. If you want to take things a step further, consider adding some new furniture or accessories for outdoor entertaining

If you're expecting to spend a lot of time in your outdoor spaces this summer, then it's probably worth the investment to splash out for an outdoor grill, a patio set, or maybe even a fire pit or water feature to serve as a focal point for guests to gather around. These are all great additions that will make your backyard the envy of the whole neighbourhood!

  1. 3. Check your pool's pH levels

If you have a pool or hot tub, make sure it's ready for use by checking the pH levels and adding chlorine/bromine as needed. This is important to ensure that the water is safe for swimming.

4. How to check your pool's pH levels:

  • Purchase a pH testing kit from your local pool supply store or online
  • Fill a clean, plastic cup with pool water and add the drops indicated by the kit instructions
  • Compare the resulting colour to the chart included in the kit instructions to determine the pH level
  • Add more chlorine/bromine as needed
  1. 5. Add the finishing touches

What do we mean by this? Equip your backyard with a good book, a picnic blanket and basket with outdoor cutlery, and other small, easily implemented items that go a long way.

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and enjoy your backyard this summer season!
