Whether you're listing a home and looking for decor inspirations to stage the home in hopes of selling, or you're a proud new owner of a home eager to start decorating; Feng shui might be an option worth exploring. Feng shui traces back it's roots over 3,500 years to China, where it was used to determine the placement of spiritual buildings. It is the belief that your human experiences are connected to your immediate surroundings.

For example, the items and colors that you include in your bedroom are connected to the personal relationships in your life.

It is a slightly complicated practice, and can be intimidating for those not familiar with it. However, there are different styles of Feng shui that all aim to increase the positive energy that you have in your life.

The style of Feng shui outlined in the infographic below, brought to us by Soothing Walls, outlines a version that offers a template with 9 squares that you can easily apply to any house plan; one of the ways that this Western version is different is that it does not rely on compass directions for placement of your items.

Using the template below, all you would do is align the bottom of the layout with the front door of your house and match the corresponding rooms. To learn more and pick up some Feng shui tips, keep reading.
