Why Signs Still Matter in the Digital Age

The world of marketing these days revolves around social media and email campaigns, search engine marketing, and various other advertising methods enabled by developments in information technology.

While no one can disprove the amazing benefits giant digital marketing campaigns have to offer, the fact is that many methods that were previously utilized are being overlooked in spite of their obvious efficiency and, in some cases, lower costs.

One of these “outdated” methods which are currently losing ground to their digital equivalents is signage. Signage is one of the oldest methods of advertising and has been used around the world to sell pretty much anything.

It’s really simple. If you have something you want to sell or advertise in any way, put a sign in front of your house or business that will invite people to take a look, give you a call, or take a look at your website!

How does signage help?

Let’s say you are planning to sell your house. You’ve invested money in renovation, hired an agent and listed your house on all major real estate websites, but still, no one is coming to even take a look.

Well, renovation matters only if people actually come to take a look, and agents are great to consult with but they may or may not get you an actual deal and websites are most commonly overcrowded with many different options that people simply mindlessly scroll through.

Yard signs might be the answer to your problems. Imagine that you’re walking or driving down the street and you see a beautiful house with a big, eye-catching “for sale” sign on the front lawn. That is something that easily cuts into your memory and something that potential buyers are much more likely to pay attention to than a simple ad on a local real estate website.

Beside house owners who are looking to sell their real estate, people who run their own businesses should acquaint themselves with the benefits of signage if they haven’t already. Signage is of a crucial importance especially to people who have just started a new business. Common logic, but also various polls indicate that people are much more likely to buy products or use services from a business they already know about.

So, how can people know about your business if you just started it last week? Well, even if people don’t pay attention to it consciously, signage can “plant the seed” for some future sales. Bold, colorful and innovative signs are something that will make your business pop up in the local landscape and they will attract more people inside.

Other than attracting new customers to your physical store, signs help build brand awareness. Simply slap your logo on a sign so that anyone can see it, and people won’t even know how they found out about your business. Yard signs are a cheap and efficient way to continuously advertise yourself since they are visible 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.

How to use signage?

The first thing you want to do is to get a design that is eye-catching, informative, and effective. Use bold, vivid colors and put your logo somewhere on the sign so that everyone can see it. If you are unsure of your design or simply feel it is inadequate, hire a professional to do it for you. Many companies specialize in designing and producing all types of signage.

The next thing that you should do is to include some additional information. Having a sign is good, but having a sign that lets people know what they can expect from you is even better.

If you are selling a house, you might include a building plan or the price you are selling it for. If you have a business, on the other hand, your sign can inform people about any sales and special deals they might encounter if they come inside.

Displaying additional information is great for you because it can help you weed out unwanted customers and prevent you from losing time with people who are not going to be spending any money with you.

Other types of information that you definitely want to include for the best results possible is the number which people can call to reach you should they require any further information, as well as your website where people can browse your products before coming to your store. You can also include some catch phrases to lure people in and anything else that you find relevant.

To sum up, according to some marketing experts, signs function as the primary connection between a business and its customers. Remember that signs are the first thing people see even before they notice that there is a house or a store, so be sure to have a sharp and professional looking sign that will attract people to come inside!
