What the Hero Deserves at the End of the Journey

What could be worse than walking on a beach in nice, balmy weather.

If you've said that before, you probably need to lighten up. Or move to Antarctica.

The sheer matter of fact is that there is a reason Florida is known for its easy living and its attractiveness to those who are ready to kick back a little.

If this isn't you, you should probably look into New York City or Chicago or Los Angeles. Someplace with a lot of exhaust fumes and cement and honking.

For the rest of us, let us look down the long road of our lives, across those trees of transformation and past the dark little caves wherein lie the great beasts of our greatest life lessons.

At the end of that long, rough road, you should see a beach.

If you see something else, stop it.

A beach. With nice, temperate waters and a constant lush breeze that cools you when it's hot and, strangely, warms you when you're a little cool.

This is home. This is where you want to be when all those tough roads are climbed and all those caves cleared of mobs and monsters.

If you haven't had a chance to shop around yet, you'll be pleased to know that inland you have a few phenomenal options, places where the cost of living is low and the effort of living is lower.

There's almost nowhere that you can land where you don't have a clear pathway to those sandy beaches.

Alternatively, if you have the means and the will, beachfront property is neither rare or particularly restrictive in terms of cost. Sure, you'll pay more to live by the beach. That's a fact of life.

But there comes a time in a body's life where it must decide how far it really wants to walk to get to the places and things that it loves.

If we all walked a little more often, we wouldn't be the poorer for it.

But take a long look at your assets, at your body, at your situation and your life. Do you want to commute to the easy life, or would you rather just walk there?

If you want to walk, and particularly if you want to walk the dog, take advantage of the pet friendly gated communities in Delray Beach FL (has condos, gated communities and 55+ communities) or the sprawling and gargantuan estates that range the oceanside.

Remember, though, that your possessions and your space don't define you, my friend. One beautiful thing about living the Florida life is that you get to leave pretense behind.

It's not the place you go to combat the Joneses with a big, rich lawn manicured by hired help. It's not a land where the nicest car turns heads.

It's a place where you get to put on your bathing suit and be yourself. Even without the suit--some rules and restrictions naturally apply here.

Shed the social anxiety and the need for stuff, and walk over the threshold and into that beautiful space, only so big as you need, relax into yourself. When you can do this, then you have officially (and finally) arrived home.
