Bathroom Projects That Will Lead Renovation Trends In 2022

Posted On Friday, 04 February 2022 20:24

The living room and kitchen may be considered the heart of a home, but the bathroom is an area that also deserves full design attention. Bathroom designs of the past were focused mostly on function, giving little thought to design or comfort; but that is no longer the case. Bathroom renovation is one of the hottest trends in home improvement. In fact, a 2021 poll showed that fifty percent of Americans had plans to remodel or renovate their homes in 2021 or 2022, with bathrooms being the most commonly cited project. Read on for the scoop on the hottest functional and design trends in bathroom renovation.

Open Layouts and Wet Rooms

The wet room, a concept long popular in countries such as Japan, is finally catching on in Western countries. A wet room is a large bathroom with a single drain and no walls to delineate separate areas of the room. It drains bath and shower water to one central drain, which makes cleaning a breeze. Because there are no steps to get into the shower, it's also great for people with limited mobility. The open design gives the illusion of a lighter - and larger - space.

Cocoon Bathrooms

The word cocoon conjures up visions of comfort, and that's exactly what the cocoon bathroom trend is all about. Designers explain that cocoon bathrooms are not about creating a smaller or tighter space (as the word may suggest). Rather, it's about making a space that feels tranquil, welcoming and warm. Even larger rooms can get in on the trend. Cocoon bathroom designs incorporate high end plumbing fixtures, warm colors and lighting, scented candles, and plush accessories. It's like having an in-home spa.

Radiant Floor Heating Systems

Radiant floor heating systems can keep bathrooms warm, even in the coldest of Midwestern or Northern winters. This is why homeowners in Midwestern states such as Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas, and Indiana are starting to incorporate this system in their bathrooms.  Radiant flooring heats hard floors evenly from below, which means never stepping out onto a freezing tile floor again! These systems are becoming more and more popular; in fact, Lowe's reports that the demand for in-floor heating systems has grown by 30 to 50 percent each year for the past five years. Contractors and plumbers, such as plumbers in Noblesville Indiana are installing more of these systems as a result. Radiant flooring does not only heat the floor, it radiates heat throughout the room. Manufacturers estimate that this can save consumers 10 to 30 percent on their heating bills.

Technological Upgrades

The rise of interest in integrated smart home systems has led designers to find ways to incorporate the smart home philosophy into bathroom design. Smart-home integrated systems can make the bathroom more efficient and comfortable - think pre-heated water and floors, ambient lighting, and better ventilation systems. In-shower entertainment systems now allow consumers to watch the news or listen to a podcast, with water-resistant touch interfaces.

In addition to making a home more comfortable and functional, bathroom remodels are a fairly good investment, as far as getting a return on the expenditure when selling a home. Consumers can expect to get back around 60 percent of what they spend on bathroom remodeling, which is higher than for many other rooms. Increased comfort, energy savings, and increased home value - what more could you ask for in a remodeling project?
