Buying a private house is an important and responsible event. It doesn't matter if you are looking for a house in the city or you are interested in buying a country house - this article will be useful to you in any case.

We will tell you how to choose a house, what to look for when viewing, and some small nuances.

Choosing a house

Finding a good home is much more difficult than finding an apartment. It's not just about planning. The house can be built unprofessionally, using cheap low-quality materials - all of this will create problems in the future. Therefore, when choosing a house, you need to examine it "from top to the bottom", not only inside, but also outside.

When inspecting the house inside, pay attention to:

Door. If the door opens with a creak, the house could shrink incorrectly.

Window. See if there is moisture in the double-glazed windows if it blows from the cracks.

Walls and floor. It is desirable that they be equal. In winter, take off your shoes, and walk on the floor without shoes. Feel the walls to see if they are cold.

House layout. Think about whether it will be convenient for your family in it, whether there is a place for everyone.

Communications. Ask to turn on everything that is possible: gas, water, heating. When turning on the water, pay attention to the pressure, whether the water leaves quickly, and whether the pipes are flowing.

Sewerage. Find out if the house has a central sewer. If there is a cesspool, do not hesitate to inspect it. It should not be heavily filled, which indicates poor drainage.

When inspecting the house from the outside, pay attention to:

Wall thickness. Walls are your protection, in winter - from the cold, in the summer - from the heat.

Cracks in the walls. Siding is beautiful, but buying a house with siding is like a pig in a poke.

The foundation of the house. It shouldn't be too low. Well, if the foundation is insulated.

Basement and attic. The basement and attic must be dry. If there is water in the basement, the house will be damp. Therefore, it is better to look at the house, not in the summer - you simply will not notice this drawback. In the attic, carefully look around - if the roof is leaking, if there is mold on the beams if the floor is dry.

Plot. What size plot do you want, and what buildings should be present? Having a garage is a big plus. A garden is good, but if it is not there, it’s not scary. Plant what you want.

Location of the house. Someone wants to live in the city center, someone on the outskirts. If you want to buy a country house, it is desirable to have a car. It is good if there is public transport and at least one store near the house. Pay attention to whether the roads are paved, whether the streets are lit.

Imagine that you live in this house. What emotions are you experiencing? Do you feel that this house is yours? If you are confident in your choice, proceed to the next step - buying a house.

When inspecting decorations:

Artwork. If the owner left all furniture and decorations you may get lucky to get also some paintings so it's less spending on the decoration. You may just add a picture light to highlight it and add some style to your walls.

Statues. Usually, statues are presented in more expensive houses, especially as outdoor decoration. There are different variations from cheap and funny garden gnomes to an antique Italian statue, all depending on the price of the house and its history. Pay attention to how clean and maintained they are. It may tell you a lot about previous owners and how well they maintained the house.

Garden or yard. Pay attention to the backyard. If all bushes are well trimmed, chances are high that previous owners maintained the whole house properly spending money on staff or putting a lot of their own time and effort to keep it clean and fresh.
