Written by Posted On Tuesday, 13 March 2018 15:57

Almost everything is designed today, with the human body in mind. In a way, you cannot think of something as good enough as if it is easy and convenient to use and offers you even more benefits for a healthy mind and a healthy body. Ergonomics has become the number one standard in most furniture and appliances today.

The mattress, since we sleep on it every day for an average of 8 hours (unless you are an insomniac or a workaholic) every night, is the first candidate to accept ergonomic designs. Best mattress for back pain nowadays are designed to help correct our sleep posture and have special features that are added to improve our blood circulation.

Another common problem that ergonomic mattresses aim to correct is back pain, which is quite generalized especially in adults. It is connected to the other health problem mentioned earlier namely posture and circulation. But when we look for mattresses, how are you going to know which ones are really effective at correcting back pain? Here are some guidelines you have to remember.

Maybe it's time to replace your old

One of reason of your back pain is your oldest mattress, it may cause of your pain in your back. You'll know if it's time to replace your old mattress, first, if it's already past its life expectancy. Most of the time, an old mattress has a visible sag in the middle or on the sides. This does not give you any kind of support that contributes to why you have back pain. You can try to flip it over and sleep on a new side, but sooner or later, both parties are going to sag anyway.

The comfort is to look good

One of the first things you need to consider when looking for a mattress that helps improve our back is its comfort level. Even when a mattress advertises all these features saying that they are medically proven to correct back problems, if you are not comfortable to lie on it, do not go for it. Do not be shy and ask the seller in the store to try lying on the mattress to see if it is comfortable enough.

You can also try lying on your friend's mattress. Look for a friend who shares the same back issues as you and ask him for his opinion and recommendation. Ask him for permission to try on his mattress. If it worked for his back pain and if it is comfortable for you, then you can go to the store and buy a similar mattress service.

But support should be given importance

If you focus too much on finding a comfortable mattress, you may not choose one that can support your back. On the other hand, if you choose a mattress that gives only support, you may not like using it because it is uncomfortable.

Some studies show that the mattresses that best fit in conforming to our natural curves are those that are not too firm or too soft, but are in the meantime. Choosing one that provides good support will not only help your back but prevent muscle pain as well.

Lumbar disc herniation and stenosis of the spinal canal

There are some things to consider when dealing with these two most serious back pains. Lumbar disc problems, such as lumbar disc herniation, are a very common condition especially in office workers in which a disc irritates the sciatic nerve. People with such disorders will benefit greatly from investing on a firm mattress.

On the other hand, spinal stenosis, which is also another quite common back problem, occurs when the spinal canal where the spinal cord is tightened. Symptoms of both conditions include pain, numbness and cramps. People with stenosis of the spinal canal can also suffer from urinary or bowel dysfunction. A softer mattress is recommended for people with spinal stenosis.
