The Essential Guide to Decorating a Small Room

Written by Posted On Sunday, 17 November 2019 20:55

Small room can sometimes be the most difficult part when it comes to decorating a home. Chances are, you probably already have an idea in mind as to how you want it to look like, and you may have even spent hours upon hours checking out Pinterest for ideas. However, putting the ideas into reality may just be the hardest part of decorating a room.

Here’s the thing: the interior design for living room is a whole different world compared to the bedroom. A common misconception that people often fall into prey for is that having a small space means that you only need to have things that are functional. This can not be more wrong! Just because your room may be a bit short on space, it doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice the style that you desire!

The important thing is to find a balance between functionality and style. Something that you should take note of when making any decorating decisions is that your space needs to be comfortable to live in for the foreseeable future. It is important that your focus is on filling up your home with things that will cater to your everyday needs as well as shedding light on your personal aesthetic.

If you have been stressing about how to make all the right choices for your perfect small space, there is no longer any need for you to continue worrying! Just read this article to make sure you make the most out of your space while letting your personality shine through your interior!

1.  Open space may not be the way to go.

It might be your first idea to keeping your space with an open concept living style, but this can work negatively, too. Seeing everything in open display can become overwhelming and, if you leave it unkempt, it can just end up looking messy.

Defining and delineating separate areas will give each part of the room a specific purpose. For example, you can put coat and shoe racks near the door in order to round off your entryway. Something that you can do to create a subtle division in the room is to put plants from an indoor garden to create a sense of division.

2.  Dual-purpose pieces of furniture are the key.

Every inch counts when it comes to dealing with limited space. The best way you can make the most of those limited inches is to invest in pieces that serve you multiple ways. Rather than trying to cram all your old furniture into the room, it may be wiser to purchase furniture that will work with your room.

Ensure that the pieces will be appropriate for your space. Be sure that you plan ahead before you actually make a purchase!

3.   Go vertical!

Narrow storage systems will be your holy grail if you are living in a small space. You will be able to get the most amount of storage out of the least amount of space. Fold-away pieces of furniture will be perfect as well for any available space that you may have.

4.  Organisation is key.

Storage may be kind when it comes to small space living, but the way you can maximise this storage is to have an efficient and effective organisation system. Having a lot of storage will be of no help to you if it’s impossibly messy inside that you will not be able to even tell apart its contents.

Making your home out of a small space does not mean that you have to sacrifice beautiful interior design for the sole reason of functionality. Do your best to strike a balance between these two by following our tips above!
