Written by Posted On Tuesday, 19 November 2019 02:50

Planning an upcoming move? We put together five tips for moving into a new house that will help you get settled and allow you to enjoy your new home.

Are you preparing to move into a new home?

If so, you aren't alone. In 2018, there were 5.96 million homes sold in the United States! Each day, people throughout the country are packing up and moving to a new place.

While living in a new home can be exciting, executing the move is a daunting task that requires proper planning and preparation.

Read on to learn 5 tips for moving into a new house!

1. Pack Essentials in One Box

Moving into a new house can be a long and time-consuming process.

Depending on how many possessions and furniture you have, the chances are that you won't unpack it all in one day.

By putting all of your essentials in a box (or two), you will ensure you have easy access to the things that matter the most.

For example, you should pack things like medications, a shower curtain and rings, a bath towel, toiletries, and paper plates into one box.

When you have these items all in one place, you can get to a stopping point at unpacking your belongings and unwind before finishing the job later.

2. Find Reliable Help

Moving boxes and other large pieces of furniture is a physically-demanding task.

Regardless of your age and health status, you should avoid trying to do it by yourself.

By enlisting the help of close friends and/or an experienced moving company, you will help lighten your load.

It's also important not to forget that the moving process often generates lots of rubbish that you'll need to dispose of later. Instead of trying to handle it on your own, you can hire this rubbish removal company to do it for you.

3. Change A/C Filters

After you close on the purchase of your new home, you should change the air conditioning filters as soon as possible.

The average air conditioning system has a life span of 15 to 20 years. But this can be far less if you don't stay on top of the schedule for changing your A/C filters.

You should replace your A/C filter every 30 to 90 days, depending on the kind of filter you are buying.

4. Find Your Fuse Box

Before you begin your move-in, it's a wise decision to locate your fuse box.

For many homeowners, their fuse box is located in a closet or in their garage. The fuse box is like a control panel for your new home.

If you have a power outage at your home, you may need to trip a breaker in the fuse box to help your home get back to running like normal.

5. Test Smoke Detectors

Testing that your smoke detectors are working is crucial to making sure your home is safe.

These systems can detect smoke much sooner than the average human. This advanced notice can give you valuable time to put out a fire or get out of your home to safety.

The most common issue with smoke detectors is ensuring that the batteries in them are not expired.
