Roles and Responsibilities of Association Leadership [VIDEO]

Written by Posted On Tuesday, 28 April 2020 20:48

There is the Leadership Team as defined by the bylaws, consisting of the President, the President-elect, the CEO, and the Treasurer. In some cases, there is the First Vice-president. Typically, this group touches and sets the agenda.

Next is the Executive Committee, also set by the bylaws, consisting of the Leadership team and the Past-president, as well as any Director Liaisons and some Vice-presidents. Action items may go through both the Leadership team and the Executive Committee before passing to the Board of Directors by way of recommendations.

The Board of Directors is also set by the bylaws. A good Board is diverse, both in voice and opinion. There is diversity that is by gender, culture, generational – with a balance of niche market players representing companies large and small (commercial, property management, appraisal). Members and Affiliates may also serve on the Board.

One cardinal rule for all the players to follow: there are NO meetings without all parties being involved –  no secret meetings, no surprises.

The roles and responsibilities of the individuals will vary but it is important that they all learn how to play together in the sandbox.
