A man who had served in four tours of duty for the US Military, received three Purple Hearts, experienced extreme difficulty integrating back into society due to PTSD, anxiety, and having nearly been killed multiple times in war. Once back home, veteran Joseph Serna was on probation for his alcohol struggles, which he used to fight the demons of his mind.
Sadly, the Judge had to sentence the decorated serviceman to one night in the county jail. Shockingly, Judge Lou Olivera, after driving Serna to the jail, joined the fellow military man in the jail cell for the night so his comrade could make it through and have someone there to talk to, as the Judge too had served in the military in the Gulf War. The article from WRAL says: “A judge’s act of compassion has a former Fort Bragg soldier promising to get his life back on…

How many of you reading this right now cringe at the thought of going to your general healthcare practitioner for your yearly physical, your dentist for a simple cleaning, or your optometrist for a vision screening? If so, you’re not alone. Many individuals sit in the waiting room of whichever doctor they’re visiting at the moment, wishing this could be done in any simpler way possible. They imagine what it would be like if, just like your job, you could do this remotely: log in to a computer and meet with your doctor from afar. Well, this fantasy has always been a reality in some ways, but as of recently, it is absolutely authentic and attainable by the masses! Telemedicine is here en masse, and has staying power in ways never before seen. Now, thanks to the emergence of COVID-19 in 2020, telemedicine is almost as common as remote work,…

We have talked about rising interest rates quite a bit and how to share the actual information and how to do the math about the real costs of higher rates as well as the real costs of waiting! However, some people are having a tough time on how to go about bringing up the conversation quickly and easily so, I have added another bumper sticker to the toolbox!  Many of you already have and are using the “Got Mortgage” bumper sticker on your laptops. We have seen countless times how a simple message on your laptop can create opportunities; so here is the next addition to the family! All my current clients have already, or soon will receive, the new edition. Please feel free to use it proudly to convey a message, and possibly a warning! And not to worry, if rates continue to climb, I will be sending you…

My grandfather could read the weather patterns very accurately on his daily walk from the farmhouse to the barn. He knew if it would rain or snow the next day just from the look of the clouds and the feel of the air. He knew when to plant and work on the fence or tend the animals. I wish I could read the financial weather patterns as precisely as my grandfather could read the clouds.
History is a good meteorologist. No one has a crystal ball, but the next best thing to forecasting the future is to look back to see how these same weather patterns affected our real estate and financial markets in times past. Where are real estate values headed? Where are mortgage rates headed? What about our economy in general? Is this a good time to buy real estate? Here are some weather systems moving…

Super Bowl XVI (56) took place on February 13, 2022, just 50 years and a little more than one month after I had the pleasure of being the referee in Super Bowl VI (6). Oh my gosh – a full ½ century has gone by. Many social and other media are bringing that history to the forefront. May I?
The phone call from the Supervisor of NFL officials, Art McNally, came about 10:30 AM Pacific Time with his words still ringing in my ears: “You got it!!” I didn’t want to guess what “it” meant so I countered with “Got what?” McNally continued “You are assigned as Referee in Super Bowl VI to be played January 9, 1972, in New Orleans.” Then he said, “You need to be in New Orleans on Wednesday, January 8th” at a hotel (which is no longer there) across the street from the Superdome, which hadn’t…

Every Birthday and Christmas I looked forward to presents, and was rarely disappointed by my amazing parents who truly gave me so much to be thankful for as a child. But the most important thing for me always was the handwritten letter.
Be it a simple card, maybe a little cash fell out as I opened it, or into my later teen years as my Dad would pen thoughts that seemed to just flow through him regarding his insights into my life, and my Mom with her witty, hilarious cards that she still sends to this day, I’m all about the written word. I have carried this into my own life.  Perhaps you’ve received a handwritten note from me, either in a card, the front of a gifted book, or a text/email that was just a bit too long…yet you read it anyway, because it was so flowery,…

It is no longer a passing problem that will just eventually vanish into the noise of social media — businesses of all sizes are consistently short-staffed. Maybe you merely heard about this occurrence on your favorite podcast, read about it on social media, or perhaps you experienced it firsthand through extensive wait times at your favorite restaurant or in line at the grocery store.
Wherever it has been made prevalent in your life, it is a constant issue following the initial shock of the coronavirus pandemic. But a question remains: Is the pandemic really to blame for this downturn in consistent employment at businesses and organizations of varying sizes? Could there be other factors at play as to why this global shortage of workers is taking place? Coined the “Great Resignation,” this has largely become what I refer to in my Anticipatory Leader System as a Soft Trend — a…

Housing prices continue to rise. While maybe not as rapidly as a few months ago, still moving up at a rapid pace. When you add into it rising interest rates, the pressure on housing costs is a struggle to explain and even harder for some to understand. The cost of living is higher across the board, from food and energy, to just about everything we consume or use. Nobody is happier about paying more for the “same thing”, home ownership still represents a significant value compared to almost everything else. Let me share with you, my thoughts. Everyone must live somewhere, and there is a cost to either renting or owning where you live. While housing prices and financing costs of buying a home have risen significantly, so have rents! In many cases, the net costs of renting are rising just as fast or faster in most markets as property…

All-pro quarterback Tom Brady has retired from the National Football League after 22 years of leading the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to Super Bowl victories. He led those two teams to seven Super Bowl championships while earning five (MVP) Most Valuable Player awards. Most likely both records will stand for a long time, perhaps forever! Records, they say, are there to be broken and perhaps Brady’s will.
There is one NFL record that the TunneySide guarantees will always stand. That is the one head coach Don Shula formerly of the Baltimore Colts and Miami Dolphins achieved. Shula had 347 victories in his 31-year career. It seems impossible for any head coach to last that long in the NFL today or in the future.  Brady vacillated, perhaps with some sleepless nights, in making his final decision. Almost every NFL player, coach, and or game official has that…
