Word of the Day - Mitigation of Damages

A principle of contract law that refers to the obligation of an injured party to take reasonable steps to reduce or eliminate the amount of entitled damages for that party. For example, a landlord may have a duty to try to locate a replacement tenant for space vacated or abandoned by a prior tenant in breach of the lease.
