There is nothing too complex in furnishing your home in English style. All you need is a little guidance and ideas to create the atmosphere of comfort and the spirit of the “old good England”!

Home comfort in English style is first of all rich dark tones of furniture and interior decorations.

Who can benefit from English interior style?

Small apartment owners. To furnish a small apartment in a unique and comfortable way one needs a great deal of talent and calculations. Yet there is no better style for not spacious apartments than English one. Traditionally, apartments in Old London were very small due to extremely high prices. So English style is a perfect way to make you small home look stylish and feel cozy.

Classics admirers. English style in interior design can be described as being aristocratic and restrained. If you love conservative comfort and many details, then old-fashioned English style interior is your perfect match.

Collectors (of porcelain figures, vases, napkins, etc.) Those who love collecting small items and love showing them off, will definitely find English style attractive. It presupposes numerus details placed over all free surfaces in your home!

Furniture lovers. If you love minimalism, then English interior design is definitely not your choice. Every small or big, rich or poor house in England is filled with a variety of furniture pieces. And not all of them must have a particular function!  Furniture assembling experts say that some may buy an ottoman that might be used only a couple of times in ages, yet if you love it, you should get it for your English home!

Bibliophiles. England has always been among the first nations to promote education, so big library is an obligatory condition for an English home. You can think of a special book-case, a diversity of shelves, or simply put the books over the fireplace and literally wherever you can.

One of the most obligatory elements of an English home is a fireplace mentioned above. Unfortunately, most modern houses are not build with a fireplace in mind. So if you want to make a new building look like old one, just install an electric fireplace to add coziness and style while avoiding any fire safety complications.

Finishing

wood

English style is all about wood! The more wood, the better! Try to include as many wooden elements into your interior aspossible; opt for decorative wooden panels on the walls, benches, moldings. If covering all walls in wood sounds like too much, you can always combine wooden panels with flowery wallpapers.

Another characteristic of English interior style is print fabrics with flowers. You can use such prints not only for furniture, but also for walls and even ceiling. Traditional British wallpapers have wide stripes of dark-green and dark-red colors.

Plastics and synthetic materials must be left out from an English home. The style loves only natural materials and forms. The British love drinking tea, as you very well remember, so always remember to buy a small coffee table or even a set of tables that can be combined together. Such minor details are the exact things that create this famous cozy English style, according to furniture professionals. Don’t also forget about the sofas and soft armchairs covered in numerous pillows where you could drown while reading or drinking a cup of black tea with milk!

Accessories and light

The rule is simple: the more, the better. Porcelain accessories, photos of your family and pets, various napkins and sofa pillows all these elements will only complement your home. Be careful with too bright colors, because English style doesn’t like them at all. In terms of light apply soft and yellowish lamps – no neon light with too cold color!
