Power outages can happen especially during bad weather. When this occurs, your automatic garage door will also stop working. There is no need to panic in case you are in this type of situation. What you can do is open the door manually with these steps.
1. Look for the Bypass switch. This emergency release cord is usually red in color and can be located hanging from the track of the door. Pull the cord to release the trolley from door track and then lift the door manually. Door may come crashing down if open so you must be cautious.
2. Once the power is restored, you can reattach the door by pulling the cord towards the garage opening until you hear a snap and ensure that the carriage assembly is perfectly engaged. Another way to re-engage the trolley attachment is by pressing the button on your remote opener.
If the power outage will last for a longer period of time, you may have to stay in manual mode. Consult your residential garage door manual for safety measures.
