Selling your home is an important life event. It can be an emotional time filled with stress and anxiety, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are three things to consider that can help you be “okay” with the process.
#1 A Changing Market
The housing market is fluid. You can’t control the market, but you can control how you respond to it. Price your home right initially, then consider reducing your list price as needed. Ultimately, the market dictates what your home is worth. Secondly, be patient if your home doesn’t sell as quickly as you’d like. Days on market can vary depending on area, time of year and price point.
#2 Pleasing Everyone
You just can’t please everyone…and you won’t! Trends in home design and décor exist, but not everyone’s taste is the same. If you have carpet in your home, someone will want hardwood or tile. If you have colorful designer paint, someone will want neutral. Trust that the right buyer for your home will find his/her way to it.
#3 Living on Standby
Your home is not really your own when it’s on the market. It must be “show” ready on a moment’s notice (or at least within 30 minutes to an hour) and you’ll have to find a place to go every time an appointment is scheduled. Like it or not, it's part of the process. Keep an empty laundry basket on hand to take things with you that need to be cleaned up quickly.
A positive attitude when selling your home will go a long way. There are things you can control, such as working with a knowledgeable REALTOR®, having your home in its best condition before listing and being cooperative throughout the transaction. Stay focused on what is in your control and let go of these three things that aren’t. You’ll be glad you did.
