How to Improve Your New Home Prior to Moving In

Congratulations on being a brand-new homeowner. It’s an exciting time in your life, and the difficult part is finally over. It’s finding a home, putting in an offer, and waiting with baited breath to ensure you make it smoothly to and through closing that really takes the most energy. Now that you’re a homeowner, you’re ready to move in and make this home your own, and there are a few things you can do right away to improve your newly bought home you might not have on your to-do list at the moment.

Check for Savings

Now that you’re a homeowner, you want to save money wherever you can. It’s time to find out what you can do in your new home to save money. Can you open your windows and avoid using the air sometimes? Can you recaulk the doors and windows to ensure your house is more energy-efficient? Do these things as well as see how you can save on your monthly bills. For example, make it your mission to check yearly to see if home insurance quotes from other companies are better for your wallet and your potential claims. These small savings add up over time.

Change the Locks

Now that you’re a homeowner, you want to change the locks. You have no idea how many people have keys to your home. If you bought an existing home, you don’t know if the extended family of the previous owners, the previous owners, the handyman, the landscaper, and the air conditioning company all have keys. For your own safety, it’s time to upgrade and change your door locks. It might not sound like much of a home improvement, but having peace of mind in your new home is an improvement every day.

Call for Maintenance Appointments

One way to improve your new home you didn’t think of is to schedule a few maintenance appointments. You want someone out to check on the HVAC, the plumbing, and anything else that might need a yearly maintenance appointment. The small fee you pay for this saves you big bucks over the years, and it can even help you avoid a major expense in a few months if there is a small problem that can be easily fixed now before it becomes a much larger problem. Call for maintenance, and make sure everything in your new home is as good as you hope.

Call for Professional Cleaning

You might not think your new house looks dirty, but it is. This is especially true if someone else lived there before you. This is a task you want handled prior to moving into your new home, too. You want someone to come in and deep cleaning the carpets, the vents, the fans, the cabinets, and everything in between. You want your bathrooms like new when you move in, and you want someone to come in and make sure all the pet dander, allergens, and other things that often get left behind when people move are gone and out of your life.

Call for Pest Control

Before you move into your new home, call a pest control company and ask them to come spray. The previous owners might not have lived there for a while, or they might not have been as clean as you’d like. This means your home could have bugs, an infestation from being empty, or even just a few unwanted creatures making themselves at home. Call for pest control and make yourself feel more comfortable.

Your new home is one you want to make feel like a home, and these small improvements are going to make it easier. You can upgrade your floors and countertops anytime, but these are small improvements you want to make right away to ensure your new home is what you want and ready for you. Take the time to do these things prior to moving in for the best results.
