How To Stay Motivated When Buying Your First Home

Unless you are making the big bucks or have help from wealthy parents or in-laws, chances are if you are buying your first home it won't be as nice as you would like it to be. And although it can get a bit frustrating when you shop for houses, its important that you keep a positive mental attitude so your enthusiasm doesn't waiver.

Going out and searching for your dream house can get very exhausting and drain the life out of you. So it's going to be critical that you learn how to stay focused, disciplined, and motivated during your house search.

Here are some tips you can use to stay motivated:

1. Don't Settle

While it is going to be important that you are realistic as to what you can afford in your area, this doesn't mean you have to settle. All too often when people get frustrated or exhausted from their search, they just begin to lower their standards and settle for anything just so that they don't have to deal with the hassle of searching anymore.

Unless you are going into the house buying game with a strategy of moving every two years, take your time and be patient.

2. Keep Pictures Of Your Ideal Home Around You

If you are familiar with the Law Of Attraction and how ideas like The Secret work, there was an exercise they suggested about using a vision board. The idea is to put picture of your dream house all around you so that subconsciously you are training yourself to see your ideal house.

By putting up pictures in your kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom, you are training your mind to stay focused on what it is you want to find.

3. Have A Set Schedule

Searching for your house is no different than any other job. It requires the discipline for you to have a set amount of hours every day where you do the work necessary to find what you are looking for.

Make sure that you set aside a few hours each day at the same time so that your mind and body creates a set pattern or rhythm where you know that on each day and time you are going to be working on your new home project. By doing so, it will make it much easier for you to push through when you might feel like giving up.

4. Look At Nicer Houses You Can't Afford

While this may sound counterintuitive and some people may argue against this, its important to actually put yourself in houses that you really love because that feeling will give you a good idea of what you are looking for when you do find your house.

Sure, it may not be as glamorous as the house you can afford. But at the end of the day, what you are buying is the "feeling" you get when you are home and by putting yourself in those types of houses, you can use that as a magnet to attract what you want (Yes, more Law of Attraction stuff!)

5. Read Inspirational Quotes

Keeping your mind at peak and positive state is essential if you want to find your house. Spend a few minutes each day (preferably in the morning) and read some quotes for inspiration that will put you in a positive state of mind.

This way when you begin doing your leg work, your mind and state of being will be healthy and positive.

6. Have Fun

And whatever you do, have fun! Don't let this become a chore. Make it into an exciting adventure where you are hunting for treasure. Your perfect home is out there!

7. Ask For Help

Don’t be stubborn and try to go this alone. Get someone who can help you along this journey. I have many clients who work with a life coach and agent who support them and it makes the world of difference.
