Redesigning a Bedroom

Written by Posted On Tuesday, 11 December 2018 09:02

For most people, their bedrooms are a safe-haven - one where only the most trusted guests ever see. Since people tend to spend a lot of their time in their bedrooms, it's only natural that they'd want to be surrounded by things that bring happiness and comfort. This usually translates to having worn out or hand-me-down pieces of furniture from parents or other family members that have seen better days. If you're tired of the lackluster look in your bedroom, and want to improve it without demolishing some parts of it or spending way too much, here are a few tips on redesigning a bedroom you can try out.

Redesigning a Bedroom - Creating an Oasis at Home

1. Change Your Bedding & Pillows

Your bed is, without a doubt, the focal point in your bedroom. So changing something as simple as your bed sheets or duvet can give your room a whole new look. Try to go for something a bit different than what you have. If your room has a lot of patterns, don't be afraid to try plain white bedding. If you need a bit of color, try bold colors and patterns. If you have a huge bed, adding a few extra pillows can shrink its size.

2. Switch Your Room's Layout

This is probably the least costly way to redesign your room. Moving furniture around can give any space a "face lift" or at the very least, the illusion of an upgrade. All you'll need is some time and energy. One benefit of changing your room's layout is that you get the chance to declutter all the items you don't use. The less crowded your room is, the more open and airy it will look.

3. What's Your Floor Plan?

Like your bed, your floor can also draw attention to itself. A bland wooden floor draws significantly less attention to it than a floor covered in a fluffy woollen rug. Hence, one way to make your room look newly renovated is to add a rug. Of course, this might set you back more, monetary wise, so look at the other options before making your decision.

4. Paint The Room A Different Shade

Painting is a really low cost way to spruce up your bedroom. You don't have to paint the entire room, even painting a few pieces of furniture is fine. Darker shades will give a more luxurious vibe to your room, so consider painting in hues of greys and coffee brown's - if that's the look you're going for.

5. Control Your Clutter

The clutter in your bedroom can pile up easily, mostly because you don't think anyone will show up unexpectedly. So while redesigning, consider getting a closet organizer or nesting baskets to store miscellaneous items.

6. Bright Lights

Having extra lights can make a small room look significantly bigger. Not only that, well placed lights can give your room a warm ambiance. One strategic light to change/add should be the lamps by your bedside. Go all out and make them decorative if possible.

7. Put Some Art On The Wall

It doesn't have to be something fancy, whatever you're passionate about is fine. You can place your favorite memories in frames and hang them on the wall. One tip about the frames, choose those that are consistent with the style of your room, or frames that will contrast nicely with your decor.

Bottom Line

Redesigning a bedroom can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. Making minor adjustments to your bedroom -- or any room such as your bathroom or kitchen for the matter, can drastically change how your room looks. By simply changing up your bedding, switching up your room’s layout, painting your room, and other simple tricks can make your bedroom look brand new.
