Whenever an appliance isn’t working as effectively as it used to, it is a good idea to call a service repair company. But appliances often malfunction before their useful life, making it harder to decide whether to repair or replace. If you’re fiscally conservative and like to make the msot out of the producs you purchase, than repair the appliance is the best option. There are a few guidelines to bear in mind when deciding to repair or replace your appliances.

Repair or Replace Appliances - Which Option For You?

Is the Appliance Really Broken?

When an appliance stops working, we often jump to conclusions, letting the obvious escape us. Before you decide to replace a malfunctioning device, make sure:

•    The appliance is plugged into the power source

•    The flooring hasn’t become uneven, as some appliances won’t turn on when placed on an uneven surface.

•    Filters and vents are free from dust, lint and debris

•    Circuit breakers haven’t tripped (many people replace appliances only to realize later that all they needed to do was to reset the circuit)

DIY When Possible

If you know your way around a few electrical components, you may be able to save on labor fees by making simple repairs yourself. For instance, if your garbage disposal water is coming back up, there are simple tricks you can follow to help solve the problem. Make use of your owner’s manual and leverage online videos for step by step instructions. However, you need to be extremely careful when you go the DIY route.

However, if there are cases where the technology is a bit to advanced it is in your best interest to hire an appliance repair serviceman to get the job done quickly and correctly.

Is the Appliance Still Under Warranty?

Check your purchase records and owner’s manual to establish whether the faulty device is still under warranty. Most warranties on major appliances will cover parts and labor for a year or two; some extend coverage on parts for longer. If the device is still under warranty, then schedule a service call.

If an appliance is more than halfway through its expected useful life, you may think that it is tie to replace the appliance, but this is incorrect. There are many instances where appliances are only suppose to last a certain amount of years. When replacing an appliance, you are able to extend the life of your appliances. Which, saves you money in the long run.

There are plenty of other factors to bear in mind when deciding whether to repair or replace appliances. However, to simply answer the question, repairing the appliance can help you save big in the long run. Ultimately, it all boils down to choosing the most economically viable option.
