There is no doubt that we have a lot of things at home. A home’s space is usually crammed with many things, with some of them being necessary and some not. But when it comes to moving to a new home, you’ll have to declutter and choose to bring the items that are essential and have value. That’s why we’ve come up with this guide that will help you with the moving and decluttering process like a professional.

Moving and Decluttering - Make Your Move Easier

Some moving and decluttering tips include knowing the objects with an emotional footprint, decide on what is cluttering your home and more.

#1: Know the Objects with an Emotional Footprint

One of the main reasons why it is very difficult to de-clutter is that some of the belongings come with different emotional values. You need to understand those objects that are no longer useful to you, but you cannot get rid of them because of the emotional attachment. You need to throw them away without feeling guilty about it.

#2: Decide What is Cluttering Your House

You need to sort your stuff based on its importance. Make three sections – keep, donate and throw away. You will be amazed to see that throw and donation pile will have more stuff than that of the “keep” pile. You will have to determine if the items that you plan on keeping are actually valuable to you or not - especially if you’re moving far away or out of state and don’t want to take multiple trips to move. If they are and you need to use them now or in future, then keep them. Otherwise, it is clutter and you’ll need to throw them away or donate them to downsize the amount of belongings you own.

#3: Realize that More Stuff Means More Time to Invest

You need to understand that if you have more stuff in your house, then you have to invest more time on it to dust and clean them for the move. This will take up a lot of your time. Thus, decluttering is one of the best options that will help you to get rid of the unnecessary items from your house and save a lot of your time.

#4: Start with the Easy Stuff First

Decluttering can be virtually quite overwhelming. So, you need to start with the easiest stuff first when packing up your home or apartment. Start with the closet and laundry first. There are surely many clothes that you are keeping in your closet for no reason. You neither wear them nor throw them out. Hence, it is the time to get rid of them to quickly pack up all of your belongings. For the clothes that you do plan on keeping, you can look up different ways to pack them with the hanger for easy unpacking later.

#5: Realize the Importance of Minimalism

Decluttering gets easier when you realize the importance of being a minimalist. You do not need all the items that are present in your house. Some items may be useless or even expired at this point, and are just taking up space in your home.

Bottom Line

When you are moving to a new house, start afresh by removing all the unnecessary and useless items from your house. These simple tips on moving and decluttering can help you to start a new life afresh in your new house with the only things that matter the most and are useful.
