Easy Ways to Make your WiFi and Internet Faster

Posted On Wednesday, 20 January 2021 20:45

Some internet providers out there have worked hard to try and increase speeds as much as possible for those who might be of low income. Others have worked to try and suspend the data caps that they have. Of course, if you want to make sure that you are making the most out of your internet or if you want to see if it is possible for you to speed up the Wifi you have even more, then this is the guide for you.

Move your Router

If you have a router in your closet, then this won’t be a good idea at all. You should know that walls, cupboards and even bookshelves can easily dampen the signal that your Wifi puts out. If you can physically move the router, then this will make a huge difference to the speeds you get. The ideal spot will of course, ultimately depend on your home but as long as you try not to hide your router in a corner or even a cupboard, you shouldn’t have a problem. You may want to be creative with your cabling if possible as well. This will help you to make the effort you need to ensure a positive result overall. The ultimate goal here is for you to get all of your main devices as close as possible to the router. Your items which don’t need a lot of bandwidth, which include smart thermostats don’t need to be as close, so you don’t need to worry about that as much.

Use Ethernet Cables

If you are playing games such as slots then you most likely won’t need a wired connection. You’ll probably find that the signal you have is more than enough. A wired connection to your router is usually the preferred option to having one that is wireless. It’s faster and it is also way more stable. On top of this, it cannot be affected by other devices or even things such as fish tanks.  Still, devices often need to have the fastest internet possible in order to function well. If you have a gaming console or if you have a streaming box, then it is a good idea for you to run a wire. The router will have tons of ports to spare so the only thing that you need to do is run a cable. If you want to do a tidy job, then having wires all the way across your floor might not be ideal, so you will need to look into the idea of cable management. If you have a lot of cables running in the same direction, then there are wall mounts which can work well.

Change the Channel

WiFi signals are all divided into channels. Your router will use a specific channel to communicate with all of the devices around your home. If you have neighbours and they are using the same Wifi channel then everything can get congested. If you switch to another channel, then you can solve this issue with ease.
