How Do You Know the House You Are Buying is the One for You?

Although the home buying process is a fun and exciting endeavor it can also be an overwhelming experience.  You may look at what seems like an endless amount of houses, trying to decide which one is perfect for you.  Questions are constantly racing through your mind - Is there enough space? Is the house in a good area? Do I need to make a lot of improvements? Can I see myself living here for a while? Even after people buy a home, they still may question whether they made the right decision or not. Buying a home is such an important decision, and no one wants to make the wrong one. Here are some things to ask yourself to help decide what home to buy or to validate the decision you just made.

1.You begin to envision decorating and furnishing…

If you immediately start to plan which color paint will look best in the kitchen, or which painting you want to hang over the fireplace, this may be a surefire sign that this home is perfect for you.  Let your mind be filled with these free-flowing ideas of how you will organize and set up the rooms in this home, and not with worrisome ones, like if you are making the right decision or not.

2.The house fits your basic needs…

If you see everything you, and your family, need to live a happy and comfortable life, take this as another indication you may want to move forward with the purchase.  If there is plenty of space to accommodate you, the yard is up to your expectations, or the location compliments work or school commutes, this may be the home for you! Sure, it may not have a garage, and maybe you'd like one, or there's no fireplace for the wintertime, but as long as the basic necessities are provided, additions such as fireplaces and garages can be built if they're truly something you're set on.

3.You can't wait to brag about this purchase…

If you can already envision your Facebook post or an email to your parents about your new home purchase, it might be the real deal.  Don't jump the gun just for the "likes", though, wait for the right home that you will be proud to show off to friends and family, not just for immediate gratification, but for years to come.

4.Price doesn't make your head spin…

Sure, we'd all love to live in a mansion in an exclusive neighborhood, but not all of our budgets can accommodate that kind of price tag.  If you find everything you could – reasonably – be looking for in a home with a comfortable price tag to match, then sign on the dotted line.  The least ideal situation would be to buy a home you love and spend sleepless nights inside of it, worrying about how it will get paid off, only to eventually end up losing it.

Remember, there is no "perfect home". Even when you build your home, you will find features that you would change if you were to build again. If the price tag is on point, the necessities are present, and you can already begin imagining your life there, you should feel at ease about purchasing this home– so what are you waiting for??
