1. Upgrade to AFCI Circuit Breakers

Unlike traditional breakers, which only respond to overloads and short circuits, AFCIs can detect erratic electrical arcs—often caused by damaged or aging electrical wires—and immediately cut power.

A whole-house surge protector, installed at the main electrical panel, can provide the first line of defense by diverting excess voltage before it enters the home’s wiring.
