Question of the Day: Who is that guy next to me?
This week I was super lucky with being able to experience an e-mentor of mine in Gary Vaynerchuk, gain another e-mentor in David Osborn, & experience a student group at the University of Maryland doing awesome things named RECN.
I don't really want to get into anything Gary said today because that is content for another day down the line. What I am getting into is about David Osborn. I was particularly interested in what he had to say because I had never hear his angle, of which I sincerely like the value he brings to the table and think he is worth the time.
David talked this week about a couple of concepts. First being "Planting Trees & Managing Orchards" when pertaining to investments and knowledge. With investments it is important to make small incremental decisions that culminate into something larger and substantive. The more trees or revenue avenues that you have created, the more you can benefit. With knowledge, this concept relates to the fact the establishing lines of intaking and internalizing new knowledge will have a similar effect as the financial approach to the same model. The more "trees" you plant, the more mature they become, the amount of value this begins to bring to you is compounded.
The second concept that I can really relate to in my business is the fact that in order to achieve success, your environment must support your goals. You need to be around the people and at the location that best represents where you want to be to foster your success. I recently learned this the hard way before transferring from my old brokerage to Keller Williams - Center City in Philadelphia.
An important note about learning lessons the "hard way": Some people stray away from encountering this, other's try the succeed or fail. This being said, given I have experienced this lesson I can respect the fundamental truth and appreciate the importance of the concept and the value it is bringing to my life.
Above all else, this shows yet again: If you are not doing, you are losing. Find your motivation, take action, and don't look back.
